external hard drive clicks. and nothing else.

Took a 2 foot fall off the top of my computer to the ground. Wont recognize the hard drive anymore. HD just clicks. Its out of warranty. Anything I can do besides freak out over losing 250 gigs of media?

If it clicks and doesn't even boot, you're screwed. At least that's how it went down when my laptop did the same thing several years ago.

sounds weird but freeze the fucker. when you take it out immediately plug it back in and try to salvage the data from it. a lot of people st sharkys have said this works sometimes.

If the freezer doesn't help, you should crack it open and see if anything came loose.
A disconnected data cable would also cause the drive to not be recognized.
