Thread: Lady in the Water

  1. I really liked Unbreakable, I've been meaning to watch it again. I liked the ending of Signs too...it all came together in a meaningful way. The Village is by far his worst movie, but it definatly has it's strong points. I think Night has a lot of good movies left in him, he's one of the better guys in the buisness today.

  2. I just watched Unbreakable again and still feel that the movie should have been over with Bruce Willis leaving Elijah in his chair ranting about comic books and villians. Saying that he was in an institution after being reported by Willis just took away from some of the super hero magic.

Yeah, but don't most comic book villians end up in the local asylum? I thought that was just a nod to a comic book cliche.

  4. Unbreakable gets better as you see it more. I really enjoy it.

The Village was pretty good. I loved the scenes with her walking through the forest and the times where she encounters the 'monster'.

I haven't seen the Sixth Sense yet. I want to but somebody spoiled the ending for me - which is M Night's big thing for his movies.

And of course Signs. Signs was pretty good but the ending could have used some work.

Overall his movies are great but not something I go ape shit over (Peter Jackson).

Yeah, but I thought it lessened the impact of Willis' character really being a superhero. I dunno.

  6. This is getting terrible reviews and looks like it'll be Shyamalan's worst film to date. And it appears that his ego is out in full force for this one, with Shyamalan himself playing a genius, visionary and martyr who will single-handedly change the course of human events with his ideas.

I want to see it not for its plot, but as a document of an ego run amok. He risked his career to get this damn thing made and burned all bridges with Disney over it, he wrote himself into the thing in the most self-serving way possible, and I can't help but think that this'll be a more accurate insight into the man than any biography or interview ever could be. In that sense, I'm interested, though I'm sure he wouldn't be pleased about that.

  7. I remember around Unbreakable people were referring to him as the next Hitchcock.

    Lol.
"Chuy, you're going to have a magical life. Because no matter where you go, it's always going to be better than Tucson."

  8. Hitchcock had a massive ego, but he was also smart enough to know what his strengths and weaknesses were. Shyamalan thinks he's the greatest filmmaker alive in every possible capacity.

I think this is a big problem M. Night has put himself in with his movies. Since almost all of his movies have had twists in them, if he does a movie without a twist, people will be crying, "Where the hell was the twist?!" And if he does another movie with a twist, people will be complaining, "Oh, it's another M. Night movie with a twist. Can't he do anything different?" He's in a damned-if-you-do-and-damned-if-you-don't kind of situation.

As for his movies themselves, I personally liked all of them except for The Village. I almost swore him off after watching it, but given that I've enjoyed all of his other movies, I'll give Lady in the Water a shot.

  10. All reports say that Lady in the Water doesn't have a twist. People are complaining about a lot, but nobody has complained about the lack of a twist.
