    Couple more...

Right around the same time David, our star basketball player died another guy in school was killed while car surfing, you know, standing on top of a moving car... I never liked him much and considering how close it was to David's death I remember thinking, 'what a stupid way to die, idiot'.

One of my sister's and my friends, Cyndi, was killed in a car accident a couple of years after graduation while she was driving to see one of our other friends new born child. Cyndi was one of the nicest people on Earth. That was a really sad loss.
Chill out. I had to jump on the "everyone that knows scourge dies" bandwagon. I just wanted to be accepted.

I can't think of too many death incidents, but there is one that I remember happening a few years ago.

Two falls ago, two students were in an argument about something or another. This lead to one of the students to punch the other in the head. The kid who was punched, David, fell to the ground after this. He died in a hospital 8 days later. I didn't know him (although the assailant lived in my neighborhood), but when I heard about it a day after it happened, it was quite surreal knowing that someone died on school grounds just a day before.

I found a story about it, and this part always suprised me:

The story could have ended with one family burying their dead son and another watching their son go off to prison for 15 years. But prosecutors hope a deal they cut with White will allow him to salvage his life, while warning other students about the dangers of acting in the heat of passion.

With the approval of the Baez family, White was allowed to plead guilty to manslaughter and battery and was sentenced to spend the next two years in the county jail. The sentence included 13 years of probation and 100 hours of community service, speaking to North Florida students about school violence
I find it rather noble of the parents to give the student who killed their son a second chance.

Sorry there. No I can see what you mean in all these examples people have given, and I agree that most teenagers are assholes, myself included.

  4. This very year, my class had a kid die.
It was pretty sad. He was the fat kid of the entire class. He was poked and prodded and made fun of all his life, but he never took it to heart. He was a little dumb, but I couldn't bring myself to hate him. He had dropped out of school before, but had decided to come back a week before he was killed in a head-on car wreck. It was kinda sad, and extremely pathetic that half of the people who left to go to the funeral left to go get drunk.

  5. You really can't blame teenagers for skipping school when they're given an excuse.

    In normal situations, yeah.
But the funeral of a classmate they knew for years?
    I don't think so.

Yeah, it was noble of the parents. Just imagine being in this kids shoes though, kids fight all the time, just one punch intended to make somebody shut the hell up and you kill him. That would be a really shitty situation for yourself, stuff like that is the reason I always avoided fights after I got out of Middle School, just not worth it.
