yes, I <3 his work too. The detail in the pix are excellent. I'd love to see them in color![]()
That's the thing, I don't care who does it, or who has ideas, because in the end, it's input, and it's what we need.
BTW FURY YOUR STUFF LOOKS GOOD!
Sorry to derail the thread.

I realize this is old news, but I think you're seeing it wrong. Her crotch is covered by that v-shaped piece, where her inner thighs meet. The protruding part you're seeing is the "chin" to her armor, hanging down from the belt piece.Originally Posted by IronPlant
So what are you going to be charging for doing these things? Although I hate myself for even thinking about getting art done for one of my characters, part of me would get a kick out of having a pic done up of my PSO/PSU character.

Well, to be honest, I haven't figured that out yet. I was thinking of selling colored pieces, with some mood-setting background work done (nothing detailed, but enough to accentuate the character). I'd like to be able to spend 10-15 hours on each one, but I doubt people would be willing to pay for that. On the other hand, I wouldn't want them to be like Opaque's homosexual fanboy pic, I'd want them to be something the owner would be proud of, because they're proud of their character or have good memories and accomplishments associated with them.
Some peope say, "No one's going to pay more than $25" and others say "It's not worth buying unless it's something like $75" so I'm getting the focus group effect. Then you could do it like this guy from that thread Rumpy made (but for some reason no one responded to, myself included)...he takes payment in game-money, and I can see how that might be a better fit. He also doesn't use color and looks like he paints right into the computer, cutting out a lot of steps. Still, I'm not sure how much time he spent on those for not getting paid...probably less time than it would take to farm all that gold, maybe?
In any case, it's pretty discouraging to see that someone else had your idea, but already executed way better than you think you can
I'm actually practicing rendering techniques that are more painterly, and based off drawings I do straight into the computer. The penciling, scanning, stitching, painting becomes very inefficient. But I'm still considering it and working out some options that don't really look anything like that fourth pic because it just simply takes too long to draw.
Just so.
So I guess any feedback in this thread would be helpful. I think it was originally someone's idea or suggestion here anyway that made me consider it, incidentally.
Set a base price for the bare minimum and set a list of features that can be added to the picture for additional cost.
i.e. Base price is 20dollars (or whatever in gold) and you get a pencil drawing.
+5 dollars gets you color, +5 gets you a pencil background, +5 more for color, so on and so forth. Of course adjust the cost according to difficulty and what not. Ultimately the only way you are going to find out if the market will accept it is to try it.
I've seen an artist get by from charging per element. That meaning he charges an increasing increment for every art medium that's used for his pieces. His prices are $20 per element but he focuses on a different type of art than what you’re aiming for.
Basically, for a picture featuring a sole character with no backdrop and only done as line art, that's one element, and the price will be 20 bucks. And, that’s basically just what you offered in your first three pieces. Now if the client wanted their character colored, that's another element and the price would be $40, and if a background where added, then $60, and so on.
I guess the point I’m trying to get across is that it might be easier for you to stay flexible instead of relaying on a set price.
If you'd like, I can leave you the email and the AIM address for this artist, whose alias is Grisser, by the way. While I don't know much about all of his commissions (I'm just a random fan of his), I do know that he frequents WOW. Though, like I said, if he does any tractions including WOW art, it's not known to me.
You'll likely want to see some of his artwork. I'd love to show a few stand out pieces done by him, but his site has been down quite a few months ago. If I can hit 'em on AIM fast enough I can ask if he could dig up any pics from him (however annoying that would surely be for him), all the while put in a word on your behalf. This is all based upon if you're even interested or not.
Edit: Jezz, Jester bet my post and said exactly what I just did but didn't jump through any hoops to get his point arcoss. Good show.
For the time being, I'll still do the ground work for you, Fury, if you'd like.

Everybody has already had and done every idea, so don't even let that thought enter your mind. If you want to do it, then do it.Originally Posted by FuryFox
