I got three wrong answers in a row and one right. I'm not seeing the magic.

Look. Take a bunch of 2 digit numbers in a row. Do the math. Every single symbol you are left with is really the same symbol. And if that's too taxing, it will always show you whatever symbol is next to 9.

Simpletons.

11-2=9
12-3=9
13-4=9
14-5=9
21-3=18
22-4=18
etc.
