Mario Galaxy's story is actually really awesome. And I read the ME prequel novel and if I compared that to Mario Galaxy's story...I'd probably take Mario Galaxy.

Mario Galaxy is not exactly telling an epic story. They share contrasting strengths and weaknesses, almost to the point of complete diametric opposition. However, if I had to choose, I'd say that Mass Effect's story beats out Mario Galaxy's gameplay. Then again, I'm not big into platformers.

just beat Faron, the fight with the Thorin was annoyingly repetative. Ive really got down biotics and using the team all at once now. Was anyone else able to save all the colonists? Also WTF with Charm and Intimidation, i have them maxed but i still get grayed out shit. Also saves are really getting annoying, the game seems to forget entire saves Ive done

Nice spelling. To answer your question though, yes. I thought it was going to be much harder than it was but of course there are extra grenades on the ground.
