An hour into this game and I am loving it. For a RPG, it is too shooter like, but I like it. I love the conversation even if it is basically the same thing, but the expressions are really well done.
Yeah, you can New Game+ it (just make sure to change the difficulty before you leave Eden Prime). And yeah, unfortunately, you can't change anything about your character.

I dunno, I was underwhelmed by the acting. It looks great when it is still (and the textures have loaded) but when it moves it's just okay. Although the Turians animate well, I think.
Oh..I like the VOICE acting, that's great. I think the whole hullabaloo about the "digital acting" blah blah and how their whole modular character creation/animation system can make everyone emote is completely overhyped and underwhelming. The range of expressions that they can show are very, very limited, and for most of the game they're set to their default expressions. For example, Uncle Kaidan just has his set sneer all the time. Chuck Norris sometimes smiles a tiny bit and raises his eyebrows. Even the lip-syncing isn't that great.
So in short, everyone looks fantastic, but the animations during conversations COMPLETELY underwhelmed me. A lot of arms hanging limply by sides too. A lot of people said it is like watching a movie. Well, it's like watching a movie where everyone has a range of facial expressions that's more limited than Keanu Reeves's.

Woah
A negative review of Mass Effect I think we can all enjoy.
It's awful. I was ready for some Heavy Rain shit.
Oh shit, can't wait to see how much he agrees with me.
Holy shit I have that same laser tag gun in my garage.
So, in sum,
The dialogue bits are the best part of the game, and since he thinks their dialogue sucked he skipped it all and was rewarded with incredibly mediocre FPS/RPG combat and awful driving sequences.
Pretty much, yeah.

I actually find the combat to be the most enjoyable aspect of the game. Unfortunatly its not very balanced (I tend to either absolutely destroy the enemies, or get gang raped by them, without much going on in between), and the ammount of macro-managing that goes into weapon equipment doesn't always seem to have much of an effect. But its still a hell of a lot of fun, and makes me wish you had the option of going into combat more often.
