Thread: James Cameron does a documentary?

  1. James Cameron does a documentary?

    http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?movieid=70019003

Blending his directing skills and a personal passion, James Cameron trains his lens underwater to volcanic vents in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Part of a submerged mountain chain called the Mid-Ocean Ridge, the vents spew superheated water that serves as a haven for creatures unlike anything ever seen, including stomachless, 6-foot worms and sightless white crabs. Joining Cameron is a squad of NASA scientists and marine biologists.
The movie is call Aliens of the Deep . I saw the title and thought it going to be a cool sci-fi. Turns out it's not.

  2. I saw a preview for this when I went to the Aquarium

  3. You do know this is like a year old, right? The DVD is coming out this month? Come on now. It's his second documentary at any rate.

  4. I didn't know he did documentaries. I thought someone might find this interesting, just for that fact alone.

He also does faggy movies too like Titanic.

TRIVIA: Same Raimi once made a shitty baseball movie and a decent western.

I'm sure the pile of money he sleeps on every night helps him rest better.

  7. Aliens of the Deep completely sucks balls. I haven't been this disappointed by a movie in a long time.

Based on the title and the packaging, you'd think that it would be a fascinating documentary about the mysterious undersea life existing in the farthest depths of the world's oceans? Well, it is…for about 10 minutes, anyway. Yes, 10 minutes (give or take) of the 99 minute extended version's running time examines the weird shit that lives 10,000 feel below the waves. Then they forget all about that and suddenly it's all about rocks, volcanic vents, more rocks, and GC regarding outer space exploration(?!?). Oh, and lots and lots and lots of 'getting to know your undersea explorers' garbage (really, who gives a crap), especially James Cameron, who nowadays looks exactly like my friend's brother (well, if Mike was 20 years older).

My friend and I got more and more pissed as this slow, boring, inane movie plodded onward, waiting for it to show a fish, an octopus, fucking plankton, anything other than another rock or Cameron blabbering on about how this was better than any fiction Hollywood could churn out. About the time that the gentle and sweet CG space aliens greeted the smiling girl in her sub at the end, I actually had an anal eruption out of pure anger.

Cameron, you stupid asshole, get out of the goddamn sub and make another Terminator. Worst doc ever.

The DVD's been out for a few months now. It's stupidly overpriced ($30, but I found it on sale for $20) and completely devoid of any special features, aside from an extended version (which, in this case, just amounts to even more pain).
