Speaking of good DS stuff, is any one else here playing Mario & Luigi PT? With games like this, how can the DS lose?

Yes, I'm playing M&L:PT. It's a great game, as was the GBA predecessor. The DS has a lot of great titles now, with even better ones coming in 2006 (Super Princess Peach and New Mario Bros.)Originally Posted by Bojack

with the sudden DS surge going on does anybody think they'll hold off on the GBA2 or whatever they were also going to make? the DS seems plenty fine to me.
Honestly, this is indeed a very realistic question. Everything pointing to the DS being a stop-gap product, something to keep people thinking "handhelds = Nintendo" when the PSP came out. I would not be surprised one bit if Nintendo themselves are surprised by how the DS is doing, and never planned on it doing the kinds of numbers it is doing at this point.Originally Posted by Dragonmaster Dyne
I don't know if we'll ever know when the next GameBoy was scheduled to come out, but I have to believe that that release date has now been pushed back - the threat from the PSP ended up not being as bad as people thought it would, Nintendo doesn't need the next GameBoy yet, and if it were to come out soon, it would hurt the DS, which is currently going strong.

I've noticed the shelf space problem for the DS as well. At my EB, they get one shelf rack wide by about one-third of the height of the total wall space. The PSP has a whole wall rack high space (about 3x as much as the DS), as well as a rolling rack all to itself. At least half of the cases on the shelf though are just UMD movies, though.
IMHO, they should release the Gameboy Revolution in the next 3-5 years. Two screens, fully compatible with GBA and DS, and plays NGC and Rev game discs.
I think DS was a test. It was successful, so I expect it to be incorporated into the Gameboy line.

I hope Nintendo realizes this themselves.Originally Posted by shidoshi
Anyways, the heck with the "next gen" GBA, DS all the way. And whatever the successor turns out to be, I hope it has dual/touch screen and DS backwards compatibility.
That sounded like pure marketing bullshit to me. They said that because they knew every one would shit bricks when they first saw it. They also knew that once peeps played it and warmed up to it that it would be a winner. So now they don't even have to consider that shit anymore and can delay the GBA2 or the DS2 for a long time if they want to.Originally Posted by Dragonmaster Dyne

I don't think there was an imminent next gen game boy; from what I've read the leaked into about a new GB for holiday 2005 was just the Game Boy Micro. I don't think there will be a successor to the DS anytime soon, and when there is it will definately have all the features the DS does (Double screen, touch screen, etc) and be backwards compatible. It'll be interesting to see if Sony or MS release a new portable that features dual screens or a touch screen.
