Thread: Howard Stern's Last Day

  1. Siruis announced they hit 3 million subs, but I'm not sure if they're still counting cars sitting in a parking lot that canceled their subs.

XM should be announcing their numbers soon. I was hoping Howie was going to boost SIRI stock to $10 but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

All a better connection is going to do is eliminate static, and improve high frequency response.

    Which with Sirius, is non-existant.

XM isn't CD quality either, but the Music channels sound a heck of a lot better than Sirius.

I don't see what the big deal is about that. You can't use them inside anyway. For me at least it's something i would never use.

Other than my audio quality issues i am really loving the radio. There was so much good music and comedy on yesterday. I have done about three hours of listening in the last 2 days. There is always something good on. The problem is i'm a channel switcher, and find myself not paying enough attention to the road sometimes . I really like CBC3 and the indie rock channel is pretty good (but too much white stripes!). Lots of sports programming which is great. I am happy so far. Being a talk radio fan i was listening to a lot of am radio before, so for stuff other than music the sound quality doesn't bother me. The highs really are non existant...

  5. Having sat radio forces you to change how you listen to radio. Takes some time to get used to.

  6. If you XM or Sirius subscribers are having any problems, there is some great advice on the satelite radio section of the avs forums. www.avsforum.com

There's limits to how well they work inside because, obviously, it needs to get a sattelite signal, but saying "it doesn't work inside" is a lie. It works about as well inside as cell phones did like 5 years ago. You can't use it in basements, hallways/rooms with no windows, etc, or a lot of stores that don't have any south facing windows. But I can walk around my apartment and listen, I can take it to work and it'll work even when I'm 30 feet away from a window. It's not perfect, but it definately gets the job done.

Honestly, it's just nice not to be tied down. I listen to a lot of talk, not just music, and some times I'm in the middle of a program and I want to go do something without missing my show. With Sirius, you're shit out of luck. With XM, I can just toss it in my pocket and not miss a second. Also, the scheduled recording feature is very nice, too.

Bottom line: Radio should be cheap, convenient, and portable, and XM is and Sirius isn't.

  8. it works inside if you live in a metro area where they have ground repeaters

  9. I'm pretty happy with it. I bounce around 4 stations and I have yet to not have something I didn't want to listen to. Even if Stern blows (hoo hoo I invented Master), I will be happy with my purchase.

XM has repeaters fucking everywhere. That's another reason Sirius sucks. Because of the sattelite technology they use, it's much more difficult to set up repeaters, and there's hardly any of them, wheras XM has just thousands, all over to augment the sattelite signal. You'll really notice the difference when driving. XM almost never drops.
