Thread: Howard Stern's Last Day

  1. Now all XM needs is non stupid rock stations to make it halfway worthwhile...everything is either indie garbage or underplayed (for a reason) bull

  2. I kinda like that they play more underplayed stuff. I don't like hearing the same shit over and over.

You'll really notice the difference when driving. XM almost never drops.

Amen... at work they play XM all day, and it's always the same fucking songs over and over again, day after day. For the longest time I thought they were playing CDs on repeat, no joke.

  5. I hooked up the Sirius car radio my gf got me the other day, but I have yet to subscribe (I'll probably do that today). Still, I get one free preview channel (Traffic and Weather) and so far it comes in clear and hasn't dropped on me once.

  6. My stepmom got a sub (a few years, I think) free from her brother, who won it off the radio or something, and gave it to my dad last year for his birthday. He had issues hooking the unit into his car, something about the antenna being fickle, but it works great now. I don't ever remember the signal being dropped when we're out driving anywhere unless it's inside a car wash. He loves the damn thing. Has it preset to a few comedy channels, and lots of classic rock stations, and now Howard's ones.

I don't think it sounds CD quality, but honest to God, it sounds the same as radio to me. I'm not very picky about music quality in the car, since there's so much outside noise anyway. It sounds fine.

I've never heard or used XM, though, so maybe it is a million times better.

It's not. It's better, but it still sounds like an MP3.

  8. I'm debating whether or not to get a Sirius radio this week for the Stern show's premiere next week (looking at the Sportster Replay). I really only listen to AM talk radio so Sirius is the obvious choice over XM, but the lack of portable players does bother me. 150 bucks for the radio plus 40 bucks for a home kit plus 13 a month is a lot of money, I'd feel better about it if the entry costs weren't so prohibitive. I shouldn't have to pay 40 bucks extra to use a $160 radio in my house, I could just download the Stern shows off the internet for free. Reminds me of the current recording industry sitation: for a reasonable price I'd buy CD's (say 10 bucks each) but at 17 bucks a CD it's just not worth it, the price on CD's hasn't dropped since they were considered a luxury item and cassette tapes were the standard (and well under 10 bucks).

Once you get it those reservations will disappear. I've been listening for 5 days now and even without stern so far it's completely worth the money. And why pay 150 for that radio? I got a starmate replay, same OEM and pretty sure same functionality and it's only $79 after rebate.

I think some of the shittier radios can be had for as little as $10 AR if you wanted to go that route

Why is it the "obvious" choice, is there a bunch more talk on Sirius?
