  1. Tough Crowd isn't on anymore to my knowledge. I thought it had it's momments.

It was one of the funniest shows on TV. The first episode where Janine Garofalo was just beaten down by people that are funnier than her was what hooked me.

I am pretty biased though, as I got all the inside jokes and the comics were all favorites of mine. If you like the jokes on shows like Friends buy Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development make you scratch your head, this type of humor probably isn't for you.

Either way, it is now cancelled because it was too political. Thanks Comedy Central. I hope you are happy Cow!

If you only have an MP3 player, download some great bits from www.oavirus.com and fill er up! O&A is actually cool about fan sites and underground syndication. Howard on the other hand, tried to get Sirius to not let users record his show, and may actually succeed.

I didn't like it at first, either. I thought it was Politically Incorrect with Bill Mahr, but all the guests were idiots, and all they would ever do is verbally smash each other in the face. But after a while I realized that comdians smashing each other in the face was hilarious. It was a good show but you have to accept that it's not actually about the politics.

That's where the O&A comparison comes from, too. Bunch of friends talking shit on each other, same as tough crowd.

  4. Tough Crowd was a brilliant show.

$10/month now, but in march it goes up to $12/month. It might be a "first 3 months is $10" kind of thing, actually. Can't really remember.

Oh no, I'm pleanty familiar with those comics and nothing had me scratching my head. Overall I did enjoy the show quite a bit. My only gripe was that at times it seemed like they were stretching and moving around the headlines just to segue into their pre-written stand up material.

  7. To those of you that don't realize how brilliant Phil Hendrie is: He's funnier than any other prank or talk show because he's not choosing his marks, they're choosing him. He's drawing in all the self righteous assholes that patrol the radio with the FCC on speeddial to make sure nobody is exposed to indecency, and making them lose their minds arguing with imaginary people. He's doing it all by himself. He's got over 40 distinct characters in his head, and can hold a conversation with 4 of them at the same time and you wouldn't even know it was the same guy doing all the voices if he didn't announce it at the beginning of the show. How funny would any of these other radio people be if you took away their Artie's, Robins, Norton's, etc. and made them do a one man show, with no real guests, just the people that call in for 3 hours a day?

To not find Phil Hendrie's sense of humor funny (I can see why some people don't, it's in the same vein as the Three Stooges and a little too zany/outrageous for some) is one thing, but to call the guy a hack is just plain silly. To be able to believably do a 40+ character show all by yourself believably takes tremendous talent, and all kinds of legendary comedians like George Carlin and yes Howard Stern make the pilgrimage to watch Phil do his show.

Gozen: Phil Hendrie is a Democrat, the only issue he agrees with Bush on is the war (and before 2004 he'd never voted for a Republican for any office in his entire life). It's silly to call a guy right wing just because he agrees with George Bush on one issue; he's openly pro choice, pro gay marriage, anti-intelligent design, regularly trashes the religious right, etc. Not buying into the radical left's bullshit about the war on terror doesn't mean you aren't a democrat or a liberal anymore, let alone some sort of right wing ideologue. What drug induced mindset do you live in that "Democracy Now!" is not radically left wing yet Phil Hendrie is some sort of Michael Savage clone?

Mzo: Nice snipe dude, you're the coolest

Absolutely not. Very rarely did they bring their stand up material in. Definately not the core regulars. A couple of the guys who were just on once or twice would do that, but not Norton, DiPaolo, Giraldo, Patrice, Keith Robinson, etc. They were mostly trying to make each other laugh, not the audience, and they're not going to do that by regurgitating material that they all know.

  9. Patrice especially, he leaves his material for the stand up stage and constantly makes new material. Rich Vos on the other hand... Remember when Dat Phan came on the show? The other comics ate him alive. What a hack.

Op and Ant were a duo for a long time and can easily hold their own today. Anthony in particular is really fucking funny and does some fantastic impersonations.

And to be clear, Robin is a complete fucking waste of space. She just sits in that dunk tank and contributes NOTHING. Just like 99% of the women on talk radio.

Lol, this is so true. I'll go to see Patrice twice in 3 months, and 60% of the set will have turned over already. And then I've seen tapes of Vos from the friggin 80s and half the set is the same as what he's doing now.

This is maybe the dumbest point you've ever attempted, because people like Artie, Norton, and Robin are "radio people." They're as much a part of the show as anyone on it, and obviously taking them away would hurt the show, just as taking away an enjoyable part of anything will hurt it. Why would you want to?

If you can run a race with one leg, that doesn't make you the best runner in the world. Yes, it's a skill, but when we're speaking about an entertainment medium, it's about who gets the most laughs, and it doesn't matter what extenuating circumstances surround it. I think Phil Hendrie is a gimmick that wears thin, and while it might take some talent to do what he does, that doesn't make me want to listen longer.
