Thread: TNL Book Club

  1. That's a long book (plus, Sinclair Lewis sucks). Like I suggested before, we really should pick something that people can read in four hours or less / 200 pages. The experience is still just as rich and that's all the patience people have for for a book they're being "forced" to read.

The online book club is a different kind of beast since people can go online at different times and at any time. A real-life book club staggers the book over a series of meetings, which is why long books are better for real life. I mean, look at how slow and democratic this process has been already. You're asking people for their opinion on a choice because books are such an enormous investment of time. Cut down the time investment, choices become easier (if a book sucks, it's only a week or two, as opposed to months, before the next one), and the club goes along faster.

So you really should pick a short book. But, like, NOW.

  2. Opaque talked me down from a 800 page book. Are these books really that long for you guys? Fine. I have a book here that I haven't read yet called Ironweed. It's by William Kennedy, if I'm not mistaken. It's about a bum who decides to go back home. It's a little over 200 pages. Is that fine?

  3. First of all make a thread for the first book Raz0r; otherwise no one is ever going to know what we're supposed tobe getting.

Second if a book can't be atleast 500 pages you all have vaginas. Man up and just fucking read what is chosen.

  4. I'll slog through a 500 pg. book if it's interesting, but if not then you can go fuck yourself because I'll stop twenty pages in. I'd prefer we stick with books less than 200 pages so that we can insure the most people read it and comment on it.
    Time for a change
