With this, though, Mel said he made another movie version because he really loved Nathan and Matt's performances, and wanted everybody to be able to see their version as well.

It was freaking awesome. But I've never seen the original, and I don't care.
Of course I "appreciate" music theater. It's the gay in me. Might not be for everyone. I'm astonished at the bad reviews on RottenTomatoes though, it's really fantastic.
Bottom line - if you like Mel Brooks you'll like this. Know that even though it's not just a camera in the theater, it might as well be. It's really just the musical put to film.

Great, this will save me a trip to the Broadway show. The original movie was good, but it hasn't aged well, so a remake is in its place.
