Thread: Gamestop managers?

  1. I'm pretty sure Target's customer base is far, far more intelligent and clean than the type that I always see in Gamestop trying to force the employee to give them deals.

"I can only say that there is not a man living who wishes more sincerely than I do to see a plan adopted for the abolition of slavery." - Tommy Tallarico

  2. I used to work for EB in my late teens and early 20s. I had a lot of fun, but it burned me out on games for awhile. I used to recomend people stay as far away as possible from game retail, but now I think it's OK. However, you do need to keep things in perspective.

    1) People are in fact idiots.

    2) You will deal with these idiots on a personal level for however long you work there. This is important because they are the repeat customers and repeat customers are the bread and butter of your customer base.

    3) Unlike Target which has random people all day long, being a small store you WILL get to know most of your customers on a first name basis.

    4) Don't grow too attached to the store. Remember there is a thing called work/life balance. Being that you are in full control of the store, it's very easy to get a sense of ownership. That's not a bad thing to have as it will make you care about the store, but remember you need to have a life outside of the store.

    5) You will have employees steal from the store and you will have to deal with it within the law.

    6) While dealing with idiots all day long may take it's toll, there's also a fair number of super cool customers that you will become friends with.

I say go for it and don't look back. Give it a few years and if you don't like it, you're young enough to try something else.

    IBTN

All Gamestop customers are either grandparents that don't know what's going on or kids who don't know what's going on.

I managed a Gamestop for a while. I wouldn't recomend it to anyone looking for a fun job to have fun at with your fun video games and fun times.

If you've already died inside and don't care anymore then retail is for you. Management specificaly.

P.S. I still have not gotten over how much Gamestop has made me hate video games. Its been years since I worked there.

I used to be a Team Lead at Target and I realized it's just Wal-Mart for upper middle class whites. Especially at-home mothers looking for childrens / baby clothes and old people.

By the way, I work at an EB now.
    Time for a change

No, Target gets those in equal or greater quantities. It's just that Target has dozens of people on the salesfloor to clean up after them, and more cashiers so your odds of getting stuck behind one are less.

  7. I wasn't management, but I worked graveyard at Target, 3:00AM until whenever (officially we were supposed to get off at 8:00AM, but usually we didn't leave until 10, more than a few times having to stay until almost 1:00PM). I unloaded the trucks and stocked the shelves, and most of the employees and shoppers were either trashy or plastic. Both my managers were completely fake tools. I got fired for horseplay only a couple days after I had given them my two week notice. Stone Mountain Target FTL.

I still like Target better than Wal-Mart as a store, and as an employee I was never late, was willing to stay later, and was courteous and respectful to everyone around me, and my former co-workers will attest to that. They hired five new people right before I left, so I figure they took the opportunity to cut me loose when they could. They were getting their ass handed to them by the Super Wal-Mart up the road, and there was talk of that particular store going under.

Am I the only one here in retail that doesn't hate my job? I've been working at a grocery store for 3 1/2 years; yes, it's simple work, yes; it's tedious sometimes and the customers are oftentimes rude and/or ungrateful, but it's not terrible. Then again, I work in dairy, so when everyone else is suffering from that wonderful Florida heat, I'm in a cool air-conditioned environment, and my co-workers don't hate me.

I actually liked my job. Chucking boxes of merch off a truck was fun and stress relieving. And I was cool with a good number of employees. My bosses didn't bitch at me at all, but they were aloof and slightly dimwitted.

You work at Publix? What part of FL? I'm originally from Orlando.

  10. I worked in EB retail for four and a half years. I loved my job. Sure, I'd bitch here and there, but it was a fun job when in my original store and I met great people.
The problem with EB were all the politics behind it, though. Managers bad mouthing other managers. The God complex that district and store managers seemed to gain as soon as they were promoted. Oh, yes, and having a son of a bitch district manager try to frame you so he could fire you instead of just coming straight to me and telling me to my face that he thought I was stealing. Fuckers.

Anyway, let's put it this way, I'll never shop at a EB again. I hate them. I hate them and I hate their goddamn business.
    ... No, I'm not bitter though. ^_^;; ... HATE!
