Free FM's first day

NY's K-Rock changed formats today in response to Stern leaving and is now all talk, M-F. The whole station is built around David Lee Roth's morning show. I gave it a brief listen this morning and from what I could tell, it's a diaster (as I expected, I mean you give a retard like Roth a show and you know it'll suck. Meanwhile the west coast lucks out and gets Adam Carolla).

Dave just rambles on and on while music randomly just revs up and drops off in the background for no reason the whole time. I tuned back in later and the last 20 minutes of his show he just mumbled along with some song. Anyone give it a more sustained listen and care to comment?

Seriously, they got rid of their only other good talk show (Lazlow) while switching to a male-focused all-talk format. It's like they want to fail.

i listened for a few minutes when he was talking to his uncle manny about ww2 stories

the stories were interesting, but David was annoying as fuck

there was laughter at odd times and at stupid jokes, sounded very forced

the entire interview sounded very rehearsed and linear

Davids voice is grating on my ears, typical radio schmuck

If this is the best this show can offer, Im definitely 1000% justified in my Sirius purchase


Edit: FreeFM in Dallas is not changing, they picked up David instead of Stern, but the rest of the lineup is still superb. Especially Russ Martin

O&A pointed out how ironic it was that they're calling it "FreeFM" in direct response to the sattelite thing, when the garbage content is exactly what's driving to sattelite.

And I may think that XM is a much better product than Sirius, but they both beat the shit out of FM.

In Buffalo the station that carried Stern is just running Jack FM now so I couldn't sample the disaster this morning. Oh well, less than a week until Howard so it's all good.

Luckily I've got DirecTV and they carry some XM channels so I can get my O&A fix on there. I just wish they had Fungus as one of the available stations because I'd like to check that out.

Russ Martin has been kicking Stern's ass in Dallas, going all the way back to the Eagle. Yeah, David Lee's show sucked. I gave it a 10 minute listen and had to go back to the Ipod. At least the rest of the shows on 105.3 are decent and P&G are good in short doses.

Roth is trash, no suprise there. Penn is on now, maybe he won't be a complete waste. I know they gave Booker and friends a time slot at night.

I woke up this morning and listened to two minutes of David Lee Roth before I went back to satellite radio. On my way to work, I tuned in again for 30 seconds before I was gone for good. I'm curious to hear how Penn from Penn & Teller is doing, but I don't feel like turning on the radio at work right now.
