Hey, wow, guess what? I DID know all of that. A number of things from Vista are being removed for the initial release, or pushed back indefinately, while other items that were once Vista exclusive are now also being brought backwards to XP. That just proves my point even more that it is questionable how Vista is going to do adaption rate wise, and how quickly.Originally Posted by Dragonmaster Dyne
And so what about classic mode? Take away many of the new features that were promised, and then take away the new visual bells and whistles to get it to run on an older machine, and what do you have that will convince people to upgrade? Under the hood fixes? Apple is smart enough to know that you can't sell updates with just backend fixes to a huge amount of people. That's why, even if a lot of techie Mac people don't care about things like Dashboard or whatnot, they're important to get the casual user interested.

im not seeing an argument here. my only point was that it (Vista) will run on older machines. you seemed to gloss over that. And "classic" mode doesn't take away feature. just like XP it just changes the visual style. you understand this right? yes they're stripping it but thats not "classic" mode. two completely different things.Originally Posted by shidoshi
doesn't Apple charge for every OS update (i.e you have to pay to go from OSX to OSX 10.1, 10.3...whatever?) that's why i find this "Apple is smart enough to know that you can't sell updates with just backend fixes to a huge amount of people. That's why, even if a lot of techie Mac people don't care about things like Dashboard or whatnot, they're important to get the casual user interested" funny.
Anyone who actually has a setup that's done correctly notices a difference. My mom never notices differences, but did when I showed her HD. THe only person I know who didn't notice was my aunt, but she got a 4x3 CRT HDTV and it DIDN'T look any different. She came over my house and was pissed she spent all that money on a TV and didn't see a difference like she did on mine.Originally Posted by Schlep
EDIT: People enjoy a new TV even to "get rid of those damn black bars."

See, at the very end you go on to state exactly my case. People are damned idiots when it comes to home theater and you know it. Do you know how many people complain about movies they buy having black bars, and wanting full screen versions so they can "see the whole movie"? 25,304,842.Originally Posted by TobalRox
Your average person either won't see much of a difference, or won't care enough to buy a new player. Again, the only way either one will become the next standard by 2015 is if they're shoved down people's throats by them not having any other choice.
