I sparred w/ a capoeira guy once. Coming from a Chinese MA background it was interesting. It seems all fake watching videos of it but you're facing down a guy like that and you don't have experience with them, it is pretty confusing. Especially since the guy showed me a lot of stuff from their training where they have a lot of moves that can link into other ones based on situation, for example, a sweep going into a roundhouse into a scissor takedown, etc. The most interesting he said was that we didn't watch so much my hands as my feet.

I was actually going to study Muay Thai as long as 2 years ago, but the dojo (or wahtever you call it for muay thai) got shut down and I wasn't able to find any place close to my house. I know I talked a bit with Mater privately about it, but I'm not sure I ever mentioned it on the boards.Originally Posted by Rocca
With that being said, I've found a potential dojo ~10 to 20 min from my house that a new friend trains at. I'm going to go to check it out after swim season, and decide if I want to fight or play rugby. If it's a decent gym then I'm definately going to go for the fighting.
I thought this movie had a couple cool fight scenes. There's one scene where Jaa's taking out a building full of people for like 10 minutes and the camera never cuts away.
lol @ "linking" moves irl. Not to mention I'd love for the guy to just "watch my feet". Heavy overhead right to the cranium for justice.Originally Posted by Yamcha
And cap is pretty neat, especially if you want to meet chicks, get a good workout, and basically listen to lost of drums and dance.
As far as a real fighting art, it's totally poop. Ineffective strikes, no training with resistance, no sparring, not to mention all the precarious positions and balance issues that come in a real fight. It's hard enough trying to not fall over in a real fight, let alone when trying some of their crazy stuff.
Here's how I see a cap fight going...
I eat an ineffective punch or kick as I get into clinch range, take the guy down, mount him, then pound his head hard enough that hopefully coins will come out.
*edit*
I never saw Ong Bak - I want to though.
