FUCK. I'm on this when I get home.
Free, necessary, and stand-alone, I should say.

Nadeo is quickly becoming one of my favorite developers, solely because Trackmania is already my favorite racing series after two games.
So, Trackmania Nations was released today: a free version of Trackmania containing one car type (environment) for the Electronic Sports World Cup. It's gorgeous, and if it plays anything like Trackmania Sunrise (while I'm sure the vehicle will be pretty different), it'll be amazing.
Big ol pictures:
I'm stuck downloading it at 20 k/s.

Thanks, I'm downloading it now. In two hours, I'll finally be able to play it. I'll try to put it up on yousendit once it finishes.

Well, I played it. <3 it. The vehicle's kinda odd at first. To compare it to anything, I guess it'd be the Sunrise Island sports car with worse handling. The interface is nice, and I like the whole points-per-nation approach. The tracks start really trivial, but there are some awesome ones as the difficulty rises, naturally.
Only mode seems to be straight-up racing with a track editor. The full-scale demo editor is in there from Sunrise, which is beyond awesome (really, really detailed stuff).
Anyway, download it. And buy Sunrise if you like it.
For you American clowns, there is also a mirror hosted by Nvidia that is way faster than the European mirrors.
I'm all over this... if it doesn't require Starforce (hurr).

Hate to say it, but it does.
Their reasoning is that if Starforce is in a retail and not the demo, it'll be too easy to remove it from the retail. While there won't be a retail of this, it's the same engine as TMS and all...
But, Christ, install it anyway and remove it if Starforce causes trouble.
Also, this environment doesn't seem to be as over-the-top as Sunrise's Bay and Island. I mean, there are still boosts and jumps and loops and the like... Maybe it's due to the lack of water (even though falling to the grass is just as bad, most of the time), or maybe it's the enclosed stadium, or both.
Dipstick, thanks for that mirror, now I've got it downloaded.
