The game gets a LOT lighter on story / codec once you get through the game's introduction. Certainly a lot less interruption than in the other MGS games.

  2. LOL at the Snake vs. Monkey intro. A subtle nod to Splinter Cell and Syphon Filter and lots of Ape Escape references, including an obscure reference to Ape Escape 2001: (paraphrasing) "I'd rather be collecting pants."
    R.I.P. Paragon Studios

  3. I caught the "collecting pants" reference. I really like Snake vs. Monkey, I'm guessing more levels open up as you beat the main game?

For those who are curious, you can also find fan-translated versions of the instruction manuals for both MSX games on the following sites.

The latter teaches how to interpret tap codes.

Heh yeah it had no real consequence in Subsistence. It was just a bit different in the first release where if you picked MGS2 you got the goof Raiden mask and if you picked "I like MGS1!" you got the regular Snake face reveal so it's probably best just to pick "I like MGS3!" since it unlocks more stuff.

I've been playing it on the regular storyline again and the game still fucking rocks, even moreso with the really great addition of the 3rd person camera. It feels very unrestrictive camera wise and almost feels like a different game in some aspects. I haven't even touched the extra stuff either!

    Awesome. I need these.

  7. Yeah, I seriously like the new camera. This is the way the game should have been to start. Hopefully, Kojima will keep it for MGS4.

I hope he keeps the more free camera system in MGS4 too (dammit I can't wait for that game).

  9. I tried playing it with the old, overhead camera, and that experiment lasted almost all of 30 seconds. I can't imagine playing a game where situational awareness is so incredibly important with that ridiculous overhead view.

  10. I like the new camera too. The old still has its uses though - I prefer the Splinter Cell style camera for the jungle and the overhead for indoors. I couldn't imagine a Metal Gear game without a fixed camera.
