That's weird because I cut like all the ropes on one side of the bridge on the first MGS3 game release disc and the guards never fell or lost their balance. I might have to try it again.

You have to catch them when they're walking right near it. Otherwise they just compensate their weight.

Did the compound before the cave last night and died several times. I now know how to properly stealth my way through an area, though. Still couldn't resist killing everything that moves.
