Thread: 2006 Oscar Nods

  1. [QUOTE=Rumpy]"Martin Scorsese, 0 Oscars. 3 6 Mafia, 1 Oscar."

I have a feeling the only oscar martin scorsese will win is the lifetime achievement oscar and by then he'll probably be too senile and drooling out of the side of his mouth to remember or enjoy it. Too bad since the man has made some kick ass movies. The academy doesnt know what the fuck theyre doing.

  2. What did you guys think of John Stewart? Everyone I talked to thought he bombed. I thought he did alright though. As for the winners, I didn't have anything invested in this, because I didn't see any of the nominees, except for one: Munich, and I am glad that it was snubbed.

I think I need to see Capote, because all I've ever seen him play are creepy, gross characters (Boogie Nights, Red Dragon, Happiness, etc).

Dolemite, the Bad-Ass King of all Pimps and Hustlers
Gymkata: I mean look at da lil playah woblin his way into our hearts in the sig awwwwwww

  4. LOL. Yeah, he plays a pedo teacher in 25th Hour too.

As it is it just seems like a bunch of really really intense and well shot pretensious after-school special scenes.
Please stop crtiquing a movie you haven't seen based on what other people are saying. That is the very pinnacle of lame. Watch the movie or STFU about it.

You should see Love Liza, in which he plays a gas fume huffing loser.

I thought he did perfectly fine, he just gave the appearance of bombing because the audience didn't seem to "get" him. I think a lot of the TV audience was thrown off because of their tepid reception.

These people are, of course, the reason TV shows still have laugh tracks.

Yea, it seems weird that the Academy works hard to bring in new "edgy" guys like Letterman, Rock, and Stewart but the audience hates all of them. If they want idiots like Billy Crystal and Martin Short they should just keep them.

  9. the thing about crash was that it felt totally unnecessary to me. It doesn't draw any conclusions about racism, it just created characters that embodied racial stereotypes and put them in a movie and the dialogue just wrote itself. Crash is a movie that acknowledges racism, but doesn't analyze it or draw conclusions about it. I also found it interesting that the viewer would have to be familiar with racial stereotypes to understand the motivations of the characters, but if the audience is already familiar with racism then this movie is useless. After I saw Crash my reaction was "....okay?", because honestly nothing happened in the movie. I give it props for acting, because although the movie is a string of impossible situations the actors brought some drama and believablity to it (the Terrence Howard "you embarass me" line in the SUV was dramatic, even if he's riding in an SUV with ludacris holding a gun to his head, after running into the partner of the cop who molested his wife the day before who mistook his SUV for the SUV that ludacris stole). It's not a BAD movie, but it didn't deserve best picture.

  10. Just watched Brokeback Mountain.

I am very surprised Anne Hathaway's tits weren't nominated.

btw, Jake Gyllenhal gives an amazing performance.
    Surprised he wasn't nominated either.
