Did you read any of my posts before this? Because you're talking about things I never said. How could you have missed where I said that I'm ONLY against killing a creature on-screen for the purposes of entertainment? If people eat them IRL, whatever, I'm not about to start a crusade against other people and their cultures. I'll just choose not to follow their example.

To say that it's okay to kill them behind closed doors far away from the place where they're to be eaten, but not okay to eat them alive and on camera isn't congruent. Either it's okay to kill and eat an animal or it isn't. It's hard to find a shade of gray here.

But would you, but your logic, like to see said guys getting a burger have to slit the cow's throat, hack it up, and cook it all on-screen? Of course not.

Would I like to see it? That would depend entirely on the context in the film. If it was just done to shock me with the gore, that's one thing and I doubt I would find that very interesting. However, if done in the context of Oldboy in which the scene serves a purpose then I would try to understand it instead of just decrying it.

My logic's fine. I just said there's no need to kill it on-camera, especially when it died in such a painful, cruel way. I'm aware this shit happens, there's no need to showcase it.

And I've already said that I didn't realize this pratice was considered somewhat normal in that area of the world, so I'm not as outraged. I still don't like it, however, but I understand the scene better now.

Once again, I never said it sucked based on that scene. I assumed it would suck, however, based on the fact that I don't like a lot of modern asian live-action movies.

I didn't really have a choice. It was either crashing into the car next to me, going over a concrete divider and into oncoming traffic, or pulverizing the bird. No contest.

Seriously, the movie is excellent and I think that other than the octopus thing that you would really like it. If you must, skip that part (it's only like a minute long if that) and enjoy the rest of the movie. I don't share your opinion of Asian movies in general but I do think this movie is top notch and a must see for anybody who calls themselves a movie buff.

but it's not. It's the first dish the man eats after being held in a single room being served the same single meal for years and years. It holds at least some symbolic meaning, and is the perfect food to show the mindset of a man who has just escaped captivity.

Yeah, I thought along similar lines. Also, he had not seen a living person (other than TV) in all those years, I think he wanted to experience having control over another's life as he didn't have control over his for so long. I really thought it was powerful scene.

I'll admit, other than that one upsetting scene, it does sound like a quality flick. Every review I've read is really high on it.
