But... It just feels right with the Micro.
Just picked this up today...and it's awesome! Just beat the first few stages, so I'm not far, but I love the drill mechanic.
One wish: smaller cart. I'd totally give up the rumble feature (cool as it may be) to have the cart sit flush in my Game Boy Micro.

Just completed Drill Dozer for the first time today.
I was wary of the complaints (flying level, wtf last stage & boss), but seemed to be unphased by them as I was actually playing. The flying parts are probably less fun than the rest of the game, but there's only one stage of it and it contributes to the overall variety. The last level is also somewhat anticlimactic, but hey... the next to last big boss was so awesome, it more than made up for it.
Overall, I come away incredibly impressed. This is the GBA killer app I was waiting for. I played through a lot of the supposedly super awesome GBA games (Tactics Ogre: KoL - garbage, Metroidvania - garbage, Starfy games - too easy to actually have fun with, Astro Boy - dull, etc) and I've been met with disappointment after disappointment. Drill Dozer/Screw Breaker is the by far the best title on the system.
Next up: Ninja Five-0. It's been sitting on my shelf... might as well break off the seal wrap.
Stafy was fun, but based on the first game and part of the second I've played, was way too easy. Never played part three and it'll be interesting to see if Stafy 4 DS actually gets a US release.Originally Posted by Brianvgplayer
I really do like Drill Dozer. I've only played a few levels but they did alot to set this apart from normal platform fare. The whole fountain part, the weird little pac-man enemies, it's not hurting for ideas yet. Revving up the drill itself feels good. At first I thought it'd be a huge annoyance that one half of the screen becomes a gauge but along with the rumble pack it makes it feel more substantial when you click into another gear. *-neo
That's the killer app. Ninja Five-O is such a throwback to the finer era of games. It's like Ninja Gaiden/Rolling Thunder/Bionic Commando on speed or something. That's a fucking trifecta of awesome all in one cart.
Enjoy the ride man.
"Chuy, you're going to have a magical life. Because no matter where you go, it's always going to be better than Tucson."
Wow! Going from DD to Ninja 5-0 in such a short time is going to be amazing for you. I really envy you at this moment.
Okay, I like this game. Jill is cute (I like her "hya!" sound effects, and how she leans out of the Drill Dozer to look around, and how her hair flops about when she turns). It reminds me of lots of pleasant things:
Music - Advance Wars 2
Sound Effects - Pokemon (not surprising, GameFreak prolly reused assets)
Character Design - Mischief Makers
Level Graphics and Gameplay - MegaMan
Collecting all the treasures is totally my style. Although I think I remember reading something about time trials... (not my style AT ALL).
I will re-read this thread now to likely find all my incredibly insightful comments are actually redundant not to mention six months late.
[Update]: Wow, I kinda went off unneccessarily on Yoshi there. I feel bad now. Must've been having a bad day or something.
I guess I imagined the time attacks. Good!
I'll send you my therapy bills from back then.![]()
