Nothing in baseball is a lock but we've beaten you guys up pretty handily this year.
Then again, in 1988 the Mets went 10-1 against the Dodgers and lost the NLCS to them.
Works for me, West Coast teams have been Phillie fodder more or less and Cinncinatti hasn't faired too well either.Originally Posted by burgundy
Probably, it's better then nothing, especially when the Phillies were completely written off in June from being able to make the post-season, plus it would be good for Hamels and Mathieson to get their feet wet in the post-season.Originally Posted by burgundy
For what it's worth, if the Phils and Mets do indeed battle in the NLCS it's not gonna be a lock win for you guys, maybe a probable win but who knows, crazier things have happened. I'd guess both teams would use a rotation consisting of Pedro, Glavine and Orlando against Myers, Hamels and maybe Wolf or Mathieson. That's not matched up that bad but we'll see...come October I might be in for a post-season let-down without them even getting there.
Yeah, I understand. I honestly wouldn't expect the Phillies to come out on top, as much as I love them and bleed red but it sure would be nice.Originally Posted by burgundy
Hamels has gotten a lot better, I'm looking forward to seeing him next season, I think he has the potential to be a damn near 300 strike-out a year mid-2 ERA pitcher in the future. We'll have to see how he turns out. Mathieson has showed a bit of promise as well, considering he wasn't even supposed to be in the Majors this year but has apparently earned his spot going into next year. Hopefully Gio Gonzalez can pull it together next year and advance to AAA and Mathieson and Hamels can get all the stuff worked out that they need. 2008 sure is looking good, not very sure about 2007 though :P

I wonder about this myself; Farsworth is a turd. Gordon's a choke artist and didn't want to be a setup man anymore, so I guess they just ruled him out. I hope Cashman's not relying on Dotel coming back.Originally Posted by burgundy
Yanks will hit their way into the playoffs and then lose in the first series, have I not been saying this all along?
I've never trashed a closer for almost blowing a game, don't put words in my mouth. I've only trashed Wagner when he's blown games, and only because you're such a dick about Rivera.Originally Posted by Yoshi
Rivera saved the day because he closed the game after the White Sox got within a run, not because he worked out of a jam he created.

Diff: look at the stats this year, you're wrong. Also, when was the last time Rivera blew a 4-run "save"? When was the last time Wagner got a 2 inning save, or 2 inning saves in back to back days?
The Red Sox were just swept by the Royals. OUCH!
