Thread: Official MLB 2006 Thread

  1. Wagner turns on the heat and gets the Mets to 70 wins. Only the 2nd team to do it (the Tigers have a mind-boggling 76).

Just as a frame of reference, last year at this time the Mets were 58-57, and in 2004 they were 54-59, and in 2003 they were 49-69. At this time in 2003 the Tigers were 31-86.

  2. Shutout, baby! Jays go for the 4 game sweep tomorrow. The Twins' pitching couldn't have chosen a better time to fall apart. Still not gaining any ground though. Stupid White Sox won't lose.

Hopefully the Tigers will be a flop in the postseasons. I have hope. The Miracle Mariners of 2001 were 85-33 at this point.

Why? I wouldn't mind seeing them make it to the world series especially after years of embarrassing baseball.

In typical Cubs news Mark Prior is on the DL again and it looks like his season is over. The Cubs should really just let Prior and Wood go to other teams and rebuild their staff around Zambrano. I'm sure Prior and Wood hold some value even though they can never stay healthy. Then again if the Cubs trade them they'll end up becoming Cy Young winners for other teams.

Wouldn't it be a bitch if they managed to get a decent win streak going and they gained no ground at all?

  7. Tom Gordon, you're hurting my feelings, two blown saves in back to back games? Unfortunately the team couldn't couldn't pull this one out for you, if you're tired please say something

Phils are still close but they need to pull off a win tomorrow to keep the momentum going then they need to take advantage of their easy September schedule.

Burg, call up the Mets and tell them to go easy on the Phils in the next 2 series, you guys are still gonna win the division after all :P

  8. This hurts to admit, but the Phils are closer to the post-season than the Jays. Go Phils. Wow.

Edit: I only noticed this now, so shut up.

  9. Yeah, but the Phillies are also 3 games under .500. It shouldn't hurt to admit they're closer by default. If the Jays were in half the divisions in the majors they'd be in first (okay, one game out in the AL west).

The Mets will likely aim to make it perfectly clear in those two series that, if by some hellish miracle the Phillies win the Wild Card, the Mets will completely destroy them in the playoffs.
