The DS version we got is a remake of the 1st game. If I recall correctly, I remembered reading about The Phoenix Wright games on cellphones being subscription based. You pay like $2-3 a month, and you would get new cases every month. Forgot where I read that from.

I was a huge fan of the original, but I found the cell phone game to get repetitive and dull after 15mins or so, even when I was only playing in bursts of a few minutes. Also, get two enemies after you at once and the movement scheme goes to shit. It has a lot of nice touches, but the core game isn't good even as a time waster.

What kind of numbers did the DS game do? It'd be dirt cheap to develop more installments on DS, I'd be shocked if that's not in the works.
