I sincerely doubt that it'll be a top tier franchise, but the speculation that the game is a new "Tales of..." game seems plausible. Namco has been making a lot of those lately, so it wouldn't surprise me if the series came to the 360.

Please. No RPG has ever sold on the xbox. Look at Fable. Highly marketed,hyped and promoted in evry possible way by MS and it still didn't do that well. I can't see a J-RPG breaking trend.
Oh and maybe it's me but putting a high quality guranteed 500k selling RPG if it was on the PS2 on the X360 for some cash from Bil is possibly the stupidest long-term decision a company could make

remember how kotor 1 was the second best selling game at the time after halo? and get me the numbers on fable, because from what i remember fable did very well on preorders, even after the reviews came out that it was not quite the game that people had been led to belive(i loved it though) . and morrowind, as seth said, sold very well on the xbox, despite its lack of mods and its late arrival of the expansion packs in the goty edition. so rpgs doing poorly on the xbox? id have to see numbers backing that up.

As did mine.
And KOTOR I and II are some of my favorite games ever. Mass Effect is gonna be awesome.
In other, more relevant news, I hope this is a Chrono game. I never played Chrono Cross back when it was relevant, and I'm sure as shit not going to do it now unless I can get it to run flawlessly on the XBOX PSOne emu. (and even then, doubtful)
