Thread: Could the Atari name be heading to the grave again?

  1. Doesn't Atari still publish alot of games? I know they did the PC games from Firaxis and a few other games.

  2. It left?

Take 2 bought Firaxis last year.

I can't pass up on a game The Collective makes, but I can wait until it drops down to a lower price. Atari hasn't made any must-own games, and that's the jist of it. You can make all of the car sims and games you want, but Burnout and Project Gotham are the brand names to get when you're talking arcade, and Gran Turismo is the name to get when you're talking simulator. Where does that leave them?

The only reason Take-Two is soaring high at the moment is because of the GTA franchise, but with 3 iterations on the PS2 itself and 1 more on the PSP (which failed to move units) I'd say that people are going to get burnt out on it this generation, which means Take-Two better be getting ready to downsize in the near future as well.

It makes me laugh at how clueless some of the fat cats of a company like Atari are about their place in the market. I guarantee you someone at their board meeting keeps throwing around the term "We're the number one brand!"
when Enter the Matrix was in its peak. Being number 1 is an easy way for these idiots to give themselves a pat on the back without actually having to look to the future.

The Collective isn't owned by Atari is it?

This is a dirty lie. The game sold like 800,000 copies, more than any handheld game including the videogame community's golden calf Mario Kart. It didnt sell like San Andreas but the PSP hasnt sold like the PS2. I think in terms of % (units sold/consoles sold) its about the same if not better for LCS.

  6. GTA isn't the best selling handheld game. Didn't both Nintendogs and Brain Training outsell it?

I do agree that it was hardly a bomb, though.
