, well yeah,man, really the cops could have painted the side of that van with her brains. They had the right to. Although it may have not been the RIGHT thing to do. Pulling her out of he car was essential so she wouldnt run anyone over or try to get away. I get that. Once they got her out, I think she could have been talked down(even though she went into Norman Bates mode, I dont think she would have kept swinging the knife around with 3 guns pointing at her). The cop before pulling her out of the vehicle was starting to talk to her and she was receptive (kind of) to it.

I guarantee the cop who tackled her was like, "fuck, I probably shouldnt have done that."

Yea, the cops do over react a bit too zealously sometimes.

But what I think more people need to keep in mind is the situations that police officers are put in nearly every day.

They don't know a person is mentally ill. They don't know that people "are totally harmless, he'd never hurt a flea!", all the unknowns are what make situations dangerous.

I can speak from experience that even the most out of shape, old, broke down fool can be dangerous in the wrong situation.

Does it suck when cops make a poor decision and it costs someone their life? Sure, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Agreed. I mean, they're human. If you or I were in the same situation, how would we have reacted?

Nah. He just had a REALLY shitty 2 weeks or so. He took the gun holster off of his ankle and set it on the passenger seat. He was getting ready to get out of the car (I think) and it went off. Blasted though the holster, his legs and the car door. First thing that came to his mind after it went off? "Okay, that wasn't supposed to happen." They're investigating how it happened now. He said he'd rather be shot than pepper sprayed. Hurts less apparently.

Just seems like the cops could have handled it better. I know they dont fuck around, and you always have to be careful and not underestimate any offender..but still. It was a 200+ pound,middle aged, mother. Did the cop have to running blind-side tackle her from behind? Maybe a Taser? Force the knife out of her hand (there were 3 cops they could have been careful and done this,put the hand-to-hand training to use).

If anyone, bitch or a dude, is swingin' a knife at one of my friends, and I had an oppurtunity to tackle them from behind, you can be damn sure I'd do it.
