I've had friends who wouldn't play more than hour or two of Ninja Gaiden simply because they actually died every now and then, and that was unacceptable.
I'm not like that but I know people who are, and it's sort of understandable. We all mainly play video games for fun, and for those of us who don't have a lot of time due to other commitments, we just want something that entertains us without having to invest a lot of time in it. Consequently, tougher games or games with relatively complex controls are shied away from, and games that are easier to pick up and play are found to be more appealing.

I was lazy, so I mapped two quick guard breaks in my main combo, one on the second hit and the other for the second to last hit. For triangle, I mapped a hard hit with a slow animation, so I could switch in and out of it with cancels. That was for regular enemies though. For the later bosses, I usually had to customize my attacks to suit their particular needs.

Still, no matter how skilled I got with the game, the difficulty would always increase so I was never over the curve for very long, and that's one of the other great elements of the game.

  3. Is there a 'best' main combo set-up? I keep changing things around, and the main combo won't go fast enough for all 6 hits to combo.

Unless you've beaten the game and unlocked the uber god attacks, not really. I'm sure people have different styles, I tended to go with the quick hitting attacks and my starter was always a kick just to have a decent range that would pull in for the rest of the hits in the combo. The further you get in the game, the more the enemies block and evade, so you won't often be getting in every hit, outside of god hand. I never went long without changing my main combo, almost right up to the end.

You know, I just watched the trailers, and I must say, this reminds me significantly of Rising Zan: the Samurai Gunamn for PSOne.

  6. I have to admit, this is great beat 'em up. It's fucking weird, but it's cool.

  7. I used to be in love with this game. But, after 13 hours of play and the last boss of level 7 (the fly), it really wears thin. Beating some bosses seems to fall more on blink luck than skill.

  8. I would buy that version of God Hand.

IAWTP. I tacked a Guard Breaker onto the end of my main combo which was jabs and hooks, then the mach speed jab, guard break. I hit level Die for the first time last night. Makes everything so much easier. Only problem is you have to swap out the break when you go god hand. (I put in Sugar Gene Combo)

  10. If you keep the guardbreaker mapped to where it is, all you have to do is throw it into any combo at *any* time instead of just being lazy about it. That way you won't have to change your controls when you go godhand, and since it's just pressing down+x it's just as easy. Really only requires you to look at the screen.

Do that, and do dodges (up on r-stick) and you should get to Level Die a lot. Good luck when that happens though.
