It's nothing. It's not like ratings are absolute things anyway. A rating fluctuating .1 spot each week is not a rating dip to go nuts over. 2.8 was their debut show, the show Vince McMahon pulled rank over Heyman and turned out a cleveland steamer on.

There's a general interest to a product that's different than WWE. More than half of WWE's audience came over to check out what was going on. Again, Vince is not a genius.

Oh, and the Canadian Destroyer is the sickest finishing move I've ever seen. I love that thing.
That match would have been better if it was shorter so it could've focused entirely on Eric Young trying to stop his team from cheating so he doesn't get fired.

That guy is so fucking underrated.

Go home and be a family man.

  4. Does TNA even know what building up means? Things seem to happen with no sense of grand scale or fan fare.

  5. You mean like how they're very nicely building up the huge Joe vs Jarrett title match coming up in the next few months?

That's the only reason Jarrett has the title, because Joe beating anyone else wouldn't mean anything.

  7. The creator of the Heroes of World Class DVD will be on Wrestling Observer Live tonight. Dave Meltzer is talking about the differences of seeing boxing, wrestling, and MMA at the same arena recently. He said that the boxing show was mainly populated by older guys ("it felt like I walked into 1975"), while the other shows had a good crossover of older and younger guys. Both Bryan and Dave talk about how poor local advertising is for grassroots MMA shows, since neither man usually finds out about them until after they happen. Dave says that internet advertising is cheap, and that just sending out a press release can make a notable difference for little money.

Bryan talks about watching DSW, and that it was such a bad show that it was actually good in parts. He goes into Khali talking a lot in the background of skits being hilarious, and the production values are terrible. JBL's commentary is praised. Dave says that SD was the JBL show thanks to his commentary, and that he was really good. Dave thinks that Cole is intimidated by JBL, since he'd at least use comebacks on Tazz, and now he won't do them due to fear. Dave thinks that JBL's pop culture mind is set when he (Dave) was a kid, and that a lot of folks aren't getting the references.

They each think that there's been too much wrestling-related stuff over the past week. They then talk about the main event for Raw, and they can't figure out who Cena and Edge will pick for partners, but they agree that Sabu will likely be RVD's partner. Bryan thinks that they could have Foley be Edge's partner, since they've done dumber things than giving away a Foley match on free TV without hype.

Kenta Kobashi's kidney cancer is discussed. Dave says he's one of the best workers he's ever seen. Dave wishes him well, and he says that a lot of stuff has been kept secret, and that it's usually a bad sign when that happens. Bryan says that he's concerned about the toughness factor in Japan, and he's worried more after learning that Kobashi was feeling the pain for a while now. Dave shares a story about seeing Kobashi as a ring boy in Japan in '87, and that he was a really nice guy. Veterans there said "watch out for him", and American guys would always praise him when they came back to the U.S. after tours. He was viewed as being one of the best of the world after just two years in wrestling.

They get into Donovan Morgan praising his return match after not wrestling in 13 months due to five knee operations, and that he got a massive reaction, and it's compared to HHH's first match back after the quad tear, except that this was a fantastic match. Dave says that Kobashi's GHC title run was one of the best in history, and that he was still putting on fantastic matches after losing it, in spite of his many injuries.

Discussion begins on Shamrock's fight, and Dave thinks he'll get slaughtered since his reflexes are shot, and Bryan thinks he'll do whatever it takes to get past the first round. A caller asks if Shamrock will retire after he gets killed by Ortiz, and Dave isn't sure. He hopes that they do Gracie-Shamrock, and he thinks that Shamrock could beat him. A caller asks about Hogan, and Dave says that Hogan-Orton will probably be happening at Summerslam since Brooke's got a CD coming out in September. A caller then asks if he'll ever do ECW, and Dave says he's not working in that dark building, and that he won't do anything that isn't high profile (nor should he). Dave then says that Hogan is a smart man, and that he can't recall him ever being outsmarted.

Bryan thinks that the animal-heavy episode of Hogan Knows Best kind of exposed Hogan as a geek. Dave says that he nearly killed his career doing Arsenio's show, and before that, they talked about the WO hall of fame. Warrior got a lot of votes, and Goldberg's name is mentioned. Dave says that even though Bill's his friend, he couldn't see him going in since he wasn't around long enough.

Bill Harrison (the Heroes of World Class creator) is about to get on, and Dave prefaces this by saying that Fritz was a great wrestler and a good promoter, with six kids - five of whom were dead by 33. That one statement drove the gravity of that tragedy home for me. I'm going to have to stop listening though, since we're getting a Hell of a storm here, and I don't want to risk this computer dying out due to a power outage.

Edit - Random TNA notes -
    - Plans are in the works to secure the Detroit area as the host city for the 10/22 Bound for Glory PPV. The TNA house show back in March promoted by ICP drew a strong house.

    - Jim Cornette isn't expected back to TNA until 7/31, thus he'll miss Victory Road on 7/16 due to a ROH commitment. Cornette will also miss the August PPV as he previously committed to a wrestling convention in Washington, DC that weekend. If needed for recorded segments, Cornette is willing to drive to Nashville to do so.

    - Former WCW wrestler Kid Romeo is trying to get work in TNA. He has a full time job working as an exterminator and he is pitching for that to be his gimmick.

    - Referee "Slick" Mark Johnson was told by Dutch Mantell that Dixie Carter wanted him out of the soccer attire, but then Jeff Jarrett, who is friends with Johnson, told him that it was ok.

    - Stars from the Beverly Hillbillies type show that will be lead-in for Impact shortly were in the front row of the tapings but TNA did not show them on camera.
