Only a strictly musical level, I agree, but if you take into consideration things like the general impact that each band has had on the community of metal musicians/fans, then I think that Pantera is the clear winner (loser?) in this comparison since Avenged Sevenfold will probably disappear from the face of the rock/metal music populace within another year or two having done little more than attached themselves to a few musical trends in exchange for a bit of fame and fortune.
Ditto for Lamb of God.

The lyrics were lame but I liked the instrumental part of it. I ended up liking a fair chunk of the extra songs on Guitar Hero, mostly because once I'd played the primary songs enough I wanted something else to do.
