Thread: Introducing... the Nintendo Wii

  1. Wii is a horrible name. They should've stuck with Revolution as it's a perfect name that describes what they're trying to accomplish this gen.

If they have a good marketing and ad campaign, who knows, it might take hold and work for them. I dunno. Everyone mocked the DS when it was announced (yes, including myself), but now their making a killing with it and it seems unstoppable, especially in Japan. So I guess I'll sit back with some popcorn and see what happens.

  2. Its a bad name, they should not have used it, but its just a name. People will get used to it, and get over it.

They should have used some sort of synonym for movement or progression.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  3. Saw this at Gaming Age, and it about sums up how what I think of the name so far:

  4. Do you think it'll get a name change when it hits the US like the NES did?

Actually, the the DS' codename was the Nintendo Nitro (hence the NTR code on DS products), which was a much better name in my opinion.

  8. IGN Wii: Some overzealous readers have created some truly phallic Wii designs. We e-mailed you several of them, as you saw. Any plans to use any of these brilliant materials in your official marketing plans?

Perrin Kaplan: What a nice way of asking that question! We actually have had a day of a lot of smiles around here with a variety of things that fans have created, let me just say that. It shows you that people are big fans of Nintendo.

Nitro would have been awful. Really though, as Rocca said, good games can really undo the damage of a bad name.
I thought you were gay.... i guess not.

Boy, I wish I posted about that.

The fact that I'm already sick of hearing jokes about it on day one says a lot about how universally disliked this is. Doesn't change the fact that I want one on day one, but I'm now cringing at the idea of having to preorder it, because it means I need to request it aloud.
