Maybe, but don't make them out to be leeches. I guaruntee they work as hard to get where they are as any legal immigrant. Not everyone has the resources or opportunities to do things the right way.

Income taxes aren't the be-all end-all. They were outlawed in the Constitution, remember? Besides, they do so much work for so little pay that their production far outweighs whatever meager amount the government could take from them. Hell with their salary and the EITC the vast majority wouldn't even pay any income taxes. Besides, Illegals pay taxes on the goods they buy.

They're not. Some border hospitals have it rough but frontier towns 150 years ago had to deal with Indians and shit. I dont want to live in a country that will just let a person, legal or not, rot on the street without health care. A bunch of sick people walking around just because they "don't pay taxes" is foolish public health policy.

And what's with the "English as an official language" bullshit? Like I said we find Chinatown charming and good for the cultural diversity of the country. There's not much English around those parts.

Thats a bit different. The only people that spoke Latin back then were the clergy, aristocrats, and royality.

Virtually all second, third, etc generation americans speak and read english.

That's irrelevant. The point is that when you use language to exclude and segregate people you only cause tension. The Constitution isn't meant to enshrine white, English-speakers right to their culture's dominance. It is a document designed to outline the contract between America and it's people. It should be available to all Americans in whatever language they speak. The same goes for the "Star Spangled Banner." Does it matter what language its sung in if the people who sing it honor it and the struggle against tyranny that it's meant to stand for?

Another example, China for centuries had one of the most enclosed isolated societies in the world. It didn't help them, in fact it weakened them to the point they were a push over when the West FORCED them to open. The same goes for Japan.

All these people who want to shut down the borders, line it with troops, create the "Fortress America" are only advocating our country's eventual stagnation and decline.

Fines are already in place for this sort of thing. To tell you the truth I think it's bullshit. Pretend you're a business owner for a second. You have two choices of people to hire for a single job. One is an unreliable, selfish, Gen-Y american and the other is a hard-working, loyal immigrant who can't speak english. If I'm trying to make my business successful, i'm going to hire whoever will work hard and get the job done. End of story. I want someone who will work with me not someone who expects everything before they've lifted a finger to earn it. I could easily circumvent the language barrier.

On the subject of language--everyone that went to public school had the opportunity to take spanish classes. They offered such classes knowing full well the direction this country was headed in. Don't be bitter because you didn't sieze the opportunity to learn. You can adapt or be disappointed.

The worst part? I called Verizon the other day, and the very first recorded voice I heard was Spanish, not English. wtf.

The sad part is, most of them do pay taxes if they're employed full-time. They get fake social security numbers and they pay into the system but get nothing back.
