    Have you listened to it?

Its not even using the same score, and it sounds like a Latin R&B song

Also the background added stuff like "Latinos, Latinas" where the song is about our nation and what we as a people had to go through to make this nation. No where does the song represent an ethnicity, and they modify the meaning by adding that crap. Very disrespectful the way it was presented.

I dont think many people would have minded if they kept the song/tune the same and just translated the words

Thing is, Americans have been saying this for decades, as the world expands and they're forced into more and more dealings with foreigners. That's one reason why so much of the world has expanded and overtaken us in a lot of areas. Japanese execs sit and listen to the Americans with whom their negotiating, and they understand everything being said. When the Japs talk, the Americans sit and look stupid.

Shit, even the Haitian students I've had here speak English, French, Criole, and even Spanish.

But isn't that really why the conservatives want tighter security on the boarders and no illegals? Becuase they don't want to learn spanish and don't want mexican traditions and culture to become part of the U.S. culture that they live in?

And is there anything wrong with feeling that way? Can't people have an opinion on what happens to the national idenity that they are a part of?

LOL wrong. In a poll of 25 countries for ESL understanding, Japan came in 24th. Japanese people don't speak English worth a shit and it's compulsory for 6 years (soon to be 12). You're full of shit. As was Gozen a few pages back when he said Japan and other industrialized countries accommodate English more than we do Spanish. Check out engrish.com for your accommodation.

Some people in European countries speak English well because it's easy to learn for some Europeans and important in the current global economy. Asian countries can barely speak their own messed up languages and seem to have a new dialect every 2 feet. The real world isn't the stereotypes that smarmy Eurotrash posts about on internet message boards.

The US, more than any country in the world, has no national identity. We rejected the British Crown but were quintessentially British for a long time. Then the immigrants started flooding in and it because more mixed in. Now what we got is... something that isn't any of the origin countries but always evolving. Find me a Essex County in California, or a San Bernardino County in New Jersey. What of Louisiana? Are they part of this supposed national identity? Im not saying this to be cute or difficult or anything, its how it really is.

So really, saying you want a "national identity" is usually hidden speak for an exclusively white, probably British-type society. Its also something racist Stormfront types say a lot. Except it's bullshit and has never existed.

Politicians use immigrants for fear-mongering and have since the 1700s. All this has been said before. The country accepts the immigrants, changes, and comes out better. Always.

I don't think it necissarily always like that. I think a lot of it is just conservatives being conservatives. They don't want change, and ignore the fact that the world they live in is the result of past changes.

yeah it is selfish, but I can understand why some well off 40+ year old would feel that way.

You exagerate. Things aren't better nor are they worse for it. Shit just changes. No one takes credit for the bad shit that happens, but everyone wants to lay claim to the cool stuff. The U.S. won't become super awesome land x ten becuase of all the mexicans. Shit will happen, some of it will be good, some of it might be bad, life will go on, etc.
