I'm going to go out on a limb and say that ANH wasn't shot in surround sound in 1976. I love how people assume that old movies can suddenly be 1080p and Dolby 7.1 ready.

I mean, it is only logical that Georgie will milk these movies for all they are worth, but everything I've ever read says that he hates the original versions, and never wanted to release them again. So, this is actually kind of a surprise, and nice to see the fans win over his stupid ass.

I'm sure he's not doing this to appease his many loyal fans, he's doing this to make even more money by selling people the same movie all over again. If anything, he's a hypocrite because he swore the threatrical versions of the original trilogy were dead to him and would never be released. The dollar rules all.

Then again, maybe Lucas finally pulled his head from his ass and decided to throw his fans, who made him enough money that he could start a real-life Empire if he wanted, a bone.

I'm glad I held out on the boxset until now. I'll purchase these day one.

Great news and glad that Lucas finally caved in. Best of both worlds. Can't wait to see if they put any extra goodies in from the archives, unfinished shots (like the Wampa attack in echo base from ESB), ect.

I bet it'll just be the same extras that came with the SE DVDs. Shit, I bet that disc one will be the SE version and disc 2 will be the original version and they'll be no extras at all.

This is great for us but it's a total cash run for Lucas.

These are the originals. The originals existed before surround sound. The 5.1 tracks are not orriginal. If you want the same sights, sounds, mix, etc as what you saw in the theater in 1977, here you go.

I know I'm a hypocrite when it comes to the fact that I want something "original" in terms of widescreen, but also want it in surround sound. I think for a movie like this it makes sense, but say it's an old comedy or something like that, then I'm cool with it. I was under the impression that the LDs had 5.1, so it's not like they don't exist.

I understand that it wasn't shot in surround sound, but as I said, surround tracks exist, so it's not like it'll be hard to include them on a DVD.

And for the record, anything can be in 1080p, it's just a matter of if it'll look any better for it hehe
