Thread: Is It Worth Watching TV Shows on DVD?

  1. Is It Worth Watching TV Shows on DVD?

I want to rent/purchase The Sopranos since I've heard so many great things about it, but the show is already on season 6. I'd have to watch 5 seasons to catch up with what's going on. Has anyone done this before with any TV show? Is it difficult to find the time?

  2. nope...never.

  3. I've never watched 5 seasons back to back. The most I've done is 3 or 4 episodes.

  4. I watched almost 2 1/2 seasons of Alias in about a little over a month to get caught up once. That was almost 60 episodes. And I watched about half of season 1 of lost in a week to get caught up for the S2 premiere. The soprnao seasons are 13 episodes long, so if you could find the time to watch 2 episodes a day during the week and 4 on weekend days, it would be possible to watch all six seasons in a month. Of course you would have to REALLY like the show to do that.

When I finally picked up a Smallville Season, I just take a day and marathon through most of the the eps.

  6. I'm finding it hard enough to catch up on Dead Zone. I can't imagine trying to watch five seasons in a row. I can get through a Simpsons set in a few days if I'm lucky.

  7. There's going to be a long break after the first...12 episodes iirc. The last 6 or so episodes are going to air like 3 months later.

Buy why rush through it? If you're 5 seasons behind, just take it at your own pace to enjoy it. By the time you're ready for Season 6, it might be out on dvd. I actually prefer shows on dvd than on TV because there are no ads (not the case with Sopranos). You can bang out a show like Lost pretty quick without having to wait through hours worth of commercials.

  8. I've watched Band of Brothers, Arrested Development, Deadwood & Lost on DVD. Lost was the only one I watched on TV before the DVD.

Comedy doesn’t matter you can watch those anytime, in almost any order, but with the dramas you might want to go stock up at the grocers first. In both cases I was pretty disinterested in the first episode or two. But when I got into it, I was hooked and didn't want to stop. By the last disc I felt kinda down it was going to be over.

Rumpy, did you notice how Lost was made for the commercials? I think something was lost in not having them there. In every episode, nearly every commercial break ends on a cliffhanger, you have the commercials to calm down, and then when the show comes on again they cut to an unrelated everyday grind scene or a flashback. Without the commercial you go from GASP! cliffhanger - to ahh funny beach Hurley moment.

Ummm....no. I'd rather wait 4 seconds for the next scene than 3 minutes.

  10. I've had weekends where i've watched entire seasons of Stargate SG1. I've also done From Earth to the Moon and Band of Brothers. Just depends on how much free time you have. Its way better to just watch it all at once, gives it a movie night feel.
