This is pretty much it. I like games, but not enough to spend $600 on hardware alone (plus more for controllers).

Plus $70 for games.

seems like the videophiles wanting the "full hd experience" will have to get the $600 one. That brings it closer to the price of the standalone blu-ray players.

As much as you all hate the price point that doesn't stop the fact that this thing will sell out day one and be impossible to find until after X-Mas.

Yeah. And this is why I will still be buying a PS3 day one, because I'll also be buying 2 to 3 extras that'll go straight to eBay to pay for my personal unit and games.

Anyway, I think Sony really messed up in a lot of respects with this conference. They could have had an exponentially more impressive showing, had they simply prepared their presentation differently. That GTHD bullshit had no place in the presentation. The embarassing introduction videos and playable segments should not have been there, save for the Resistence and Heavenly Sword playables. They should have waited on the price announcement. They should have replaced all of that wasted time by showing and explaining the online service and media functions, and afterwards just shown a long montage of all of the titles. What a waste.

Regardless, they did show a lot of games I want, they will likely continue to have most of the games I want, and their system has the most shit in every respect, so I will buy it. But that conference was pretty disheartening.

I'm not pissed enough at Sony to swear at them (I don't care enough) but that 600 price tag is absolutely a killer. There's no way I'm going to be spending over 400 for a console, it's just not worth it when 360 and Wii are going to be cheaper alternatives when this thing drops. I'm bored with Metal Gear and haven't played a Final Fantasy since 9 (12 looks okay... I guess). I like things like Gears of War because it's atleast a fresh IP. Gran Turismo is boring. I don't believe this series has the longevity Sony has been pulling out of it.

Not to mention the $600 system will probably break once over 5 years, too. Not worth it, not even close.

It does if Sony added proper AI, car damage, proper online, etc. But they keep the same flawed core and just add better graphics and sound - the game is a microcosm for everything bad in modern game design.

Yes, and also why I can't get in to a lot of 3D fighters past their initial game. It's not enough to add in new levels and a slightly new gameplay addition. I need more than that or else I feel like I'm playing the exact same game I did just two years earlier (and bored at that). I don't buy wrestling games anymore because of this shit and just play them once in awhile with Jonas, and I used to run the #1 fan site on the internet for 4 years for wrestling games back in 1999.

Adding a new roster and one big addition (usually half baked) is not enough. Core features have to be changed for the better.

The 2 bundles wouldnt be that big a deal if it was just the harddrives, but not supporting mem sticks, hdmi, and wifi in the $500 bundle is nuts. It really makes the $300 360 bundle seem like a good deal. At least you can upgrade it later on. They really should label the $500 system as the Official Playstation 3 Retard Bundle.
