Thread: Resident Wiivil

  1. RE4 didn't sell as well on the PS2 because it was considered old news by the time it came out by a public that only craves the "next big thing."

I bought the PS2 version, btw.

Unfortunately, it seems like Natsume is too busy milking their Harvest Moon cash cow to bother making another Wild Guns(ish) game.
Your mom is their big cash cow.

  3. after months of the GC version winning awards, acclaim,etc..
And selling copies. Come on! I know you're stupid, but you can't be that stupid.

    It's probably around 1.2 million.
According to Capcom 3 million copies of the game have shipped on both platforms.

  4. If this uses the fixed over the shoulder RE4 style gameplay with the wii controller, I would take the wii version over any ps2/360 version. Id much rather point and shoot at zombies rather then analog stick over and shoot.

I don't know why you guys would think it's going to be gun survivor style instead of the RE4 style. Just take RE4 and have the pointer correspond to the laser sight in the game...

To GC owners only. The PS2 fanbase dwarfs the GC fanbase. More people should have bought it.

    Fallacious logic.

Just because the PS2 has 5 times the installed base doesnt mean it should sell 5 times the units. Time plays a factor into it, the fact that it was an old port instead of the hot new shit plays a factor into it, the fact that many fans Im sure bought a GC plays a factor into it, and so forth.

I dont know how many has sold, but if 1 million copies of the game is collecting dust on store shelves (meaning GC - 1.2m to PS2 - 0.8m) I'd be surprised.

I know there was a 2005 sales thread on GAF but I think they turned off their search for E3.

Holy shit would that be awesome! Gimme WG or something that plays like Dynamite Duke with the Wii controller! Of course, you'd be friggen' exhausted after playing.

  8. Does Natsume develop anything? I thought they only publish. They release a few fishing games no one seems to notice. CIMA was a pretty good action puzzle adventure game for gba that was completely ignored.
    Donk

Yep. They should call it RE5 or some other special name. Nobody wants an "old game" for $50.

My two cents on it isn't that the GC exclusivity almost killed it, but it helped. Silent Hill was the near coup de grace, though.

When the GC and XBox were in the first year or so, people would come into my store all the time asking which system they should get. When asked what kinds of games they liked, many would reply their favorite series was RE. So of course, I explained then that they'd need a Gamecube, and why (and the whole pros and cons of each system deal, yadayada). (this also applies to dying for the new Zelda for their PS2 or Xbox). And nearly every time, they'd just get me to set them up with another good horror game (ie Silent Hill or Fatal Frame) instead.

A lot of people simply would not get a Cube no matter what was on it (even when all the stuff they said they were after was GC exclusive). But I think just as many would have chomped at the bit for RE had there not been other great alternatives on the other systems to give them a survival horror fix.
