The only reason why Joust's posts are out of place is that there isn't around here anymore who bothers to speak up in such a manner anymore. kbuchanan got banned and this thread (and forum) is the better for it.

Joust and most other ardent 360 players don't give a fuck what review scores Gears, Halo 3, or other games gets. I don't get my panties knotted up if someone says some bullshit game I like sucks.

Meanwhile, Nintendo fans are generally the most indignant and vociferous of people who post on message boards. Nothing is ever good enough for them. Every 1st party game is The Best Game Ever Made. Every game that's not made for Nintendo systems should be. Everyone who doesn't agree is not a gamer and/or hates fun. These people read Nintendo executives say that games don't need good sounds and graphics and alter their tastes to agree with that, and throw sales charts in your face if you call them out on their bullshit.

These people look at SMG and see the best graphics and art direction they have ever seen, hear the best music they have ever heard, and play the best game they have ever played. These people cannot comprehend the possibilty of other people not finding the same qualities in the game.

I play SMG at a kiosk and I see a yelping manchild jumping around in the same manner as he did 10 years ago with Super Mario 64, still collecting stars for no reason other than the sake of doing so.

Well put. Some of it has to be attributed to a general inferiority complex shared by the fanbase. Zealous and overdefensive are words that come to mind. With that said, however, Galaxy looks fantastic and is probably my most anticipated game this year. If a Mario game can deliver, there are very few video game experiences as fun and enjoyable. I acknowledge that this sentiment is most likely rooted in nostalgia.

And I say this fake account is Rich. It's that stupid.

Look, I thought Sunshine and Wind Waker were garbage, but this is EXACTLY what a Mario game in 2007 should be. Simple, pure, platforming, with imaginative, varied, and densely paced levels. What the hell more do you want?

I don't know if that makes it the best game of the year or whatever, but if Mario still matters to you, and you still love the old ones, I don't get how you could bitch about this game. And if the best Mario in over a decade doesn't mean anything to you, then why are you even bothering to follow this game?

See, I always thought the most indignant and vociferous of people who post on message boards were the people who make blatantly biased and over-generalized statements, kind of like you're doing here. Fanboys will get their panties in a wad over any franchise, not just the ones owned by Nintendo.

And why the hell are we getting into an argument like that on TNL? There might be ONE guy on this forum who I would consider an irrational Nintendo fanboy. If you're going to bitch about nintendo and its fans do it on GameFAQs or something.

On a seperate note, I played the demo for Galaxy last weekend, and I am definitely excited for it. Probably what I noticed most was how Mario's life has been knocked down to 3 lifebars as opposed to the 8 in SMS and SM64. I've been extremely disappointed in Nintendo for making their games too easy ever since the SNES, so hopefully this game will be a bit more challenging than the recent Zelda outings.

This is truth if you replace the word "fan" with "fanboy". There's a definite cult of gamers that fit the description you gave (and unfortunately they're common in the gaming media) but there are still plenty of sane Nintendo fans, gamers that don't twist everything in Nintendo's direction and that acknowledge when the company does stupid shit.

i think i prefer wind waker on SOME occasions then twilight. Midna was awesome though.

Also 64 > sunshine, but SMB3 > 64, and OoT> twilight and wind waker.

If the demo is any indicator, Galaxy is much better than 64. It actually plays like a real platformer, and a damned good one.

I just think that everyone who doesn't like what i like and hate what i hate is either ignorant or incompetent, excepting Mode7, Alan Fatima, and DiffusionX, but not dog$. if dog$ likes anything that i like, that one thing becomes a painful bowel movement and i can't do anything except try to forget about it and pray it doesn't happen again. Fuck Nintendo, Gumpei Yokoi's dead and Hip Tanaka doesn't make soundtracks anymore.
