FWIW, I think retarded AI is a major gameplay flaw.

I don't believe. They're not powerups anymore, they're just key mechanisms necessitated by locks (water spouts, unlit torches) that are required to progress through the stage. They're positioned where and when they have to be. A fireflower used to mean "I get to fuck shit up now," but Galaxy twisted it into "I can light these torches that I have to light in order to move on now." They're just keys, man. Fancy keys with theme music.

  3. Why doesn't Nintendo make difficulty settings in their games? Like why not have their typical hand holding structure as the normal setting, but if you change it to advanced, it cuts out all of the redundancy text and tutorials and bumps up enemy AI and such?

Is that too much to ask for in 2007? er, 2008.

  4. Because grandma can't figure out which difficulty setting to play on. Nintendo already thinks she's too stupid to remember what a key in Zelda does, so they remind her every time, and she's too damn oblivious to realize she's low on health without a persistant buzzing noise, so how the fuck can she be expected to decide which difficulty is best for her?

    I remember that game

  6. Shut up.

  7. Galaxy is only fun to play while under the influence of something, the most fun I got from the whole game was jumping around planets and playing with the gravity. The only thing I love about the game is doing a forward jump off those cylinder things and watching Mario going into orbit around the thing. After that got tiresome and I got to 93 stars and havent picked it up since.

Because difficulty settings aren't necessary for every fucking game. Why not just make the game so it has a natural progression of difficulty? Oh, that's right, because then people who "try it out" won't be able to properly judge it.
    Donk

  9. What natural progression of difficulty

    SMG is easy - easy.

And then all of a sudden Tedious if you want to try and go past like 80 stars.

Also, how would difficulty work in Mario? Take extra damage from enemies? That's the worst way for difficulty to work IMO. Difficulty levels should enhance the actual use of gameplay, take Halo for example, dieing in 1 or 2 shots isn't fun. Yeah it's tough but it's not fun, give me more enemies to fight instead so that I have to think and plan out how I'm going to go about it with more intensity.

For Mario there isn't really a way to do that without just sucking out what fun there is to be had in the game.

  10. I don't hate mario for being easy, I don't like it because it's a kids game
