I was joking, I've never played these fucking games.

  2. Yeah, III was way fun BITD. Reminded me a lot of Zelda 2. Have VI but haven't started it. Want to play them all in order, but don't want to pay the price for the I&II PC remakes, nor do I want to buy the TG-16 CD just to play the originals, nor do I want to download any ROMZ0RZ.

    So, I'm kinda frozen.

  3. You should just forget about the old ones and just play with what you have then.

  4. Yeah, but I've been interested in playing these since they came out on TG-16, like, fifteen years ago? More? The point is, I've waited this long, I can continue to wait. Not like I don't have 5 billion other games to play.

  5. I played book 1&2 when it was current, and loved it to death.
I played 3, and didn't like it so much.
I started to play 4 and didn't like playing in japanese.
    fast forward a few years.
Went back to 1&2, and found it incredibly dull, didn't touch 3, and downloaded the translated patch for 4, and just couldn't get into it. I just don't find much excitment in walking through the enemies. What's the point?
As far as ark of napishtim, I played it for a while, enjoyed it, then moved on.
    here's a few more commas,,,,,,

  6. I find the Eternal remakes of 1 and 2 hold up pretty well. Still uber old school but they look and sound nice, and they're short, briskly paced games, so I don't get bored.

As long as you play the right versions, you should be able to have an excellent time playing through the series. Not only that, you'll be able to play all of them but V in English. I&II Eternal/Complete for PC is a very nice package, and infinitely more playable than the earlier versions, even TG16. Nice looking graphics too. III has its issues, namely the SNES version's brain-damaging music, but it's a pretty fun game. If you can't play it on TG16, I'd suggest the Genesis version. There was a remake of III using the VI English released earlier this year for PC in Japan, called the Oath in Felghana. Have yet to play it yet, but I'm gonna be getting there soon. The SFC version of IV is a solid game in general, and I think it holds up pretty well. Haven't played the PCE one. Barely played V, so I don't want to say much about it. I'll get around to that one, too.

If you don't like Ark of Napishtim, though, you're hopeless. It's an insanely fun game, and it's worth a look if you like action RPGs in any way at all.

Melf, I noticed you mentioned an English patch for V. Was there a development I didn't know about? I've been waiting until I could understand what was going on to play more of it.

Whoops, my bad. I was thinking of Mask of the Sun (IV) on Super Famicom. Part 5 is still in Japanese.

The Ark of NAPISTIM is an awesome game, and its one of the best games available on the PS2. If the PSP version is the exact same game, then its easily the best game available on the PSP right now. I've never played any of the other Ys games though.
