Thread: Rob Zombie's Halloween

  1. I'd imagine that the hood will cast most of his revealed face in shadow like his hair did in the first movie.

  2. That looks really weird. Like he's getting his outfit ready to go out and kill.

  4. Can't wait.

  5. Meh, I hope its better than remake.

  6. I greatly enjoyed the remake. I think the sequel will rock, aside from Zombie shamelessly ripping off Jason's mommy complex for Michael this time around.

BTW, I recently re-watched House of 100 Corpses and Devil's Rejects, and I have to say that I think I like HO1KC better than DR now. While DR is an order of magnitude improved over the original in terms of technical/directing skill, it's the main story of DR that kinda bugs me. Zombie made Spaulding, Otis and Baby so sadistic and evil, but then made you try to feel sorry for them when they got their rightful comeuppance, like it was something sad and tragic. It just didn't work. Sure, they were all evil in HO1KC, but it was so goofy and cartoonish that you didn't take it seriously. DR removed that camp facor in favor of grit and realism, and those same characters in that light suddenly went from amusing to unlikable.

Don't get me wrong, DR is still a great fucking movie, but that one plot element just kinda annoys me.

I read an AV Club analysis of DR that parallels the movie to Bush administration torture policies. Link.

That H2 poster is fucking awesome by the way. I liked most of the remake, so I'm eager to see what he does when he cuts loose.

I'm a huge Zombie fan but I've only watched Ho1kC the one time when it was in theatres and hated it. I should probably give it another shot.

  9. I haven't seen all of it (Ho1kC), it seemed mostly like a silly haunted house made into a movie.

I've only seen DR once in theaters and enjoyed it, I remember thinking that the Freebird ending was a bit much though.

Dude, I was in the same boat as you at one point. When I saw HO1KC in the theater I fucking hated it. I think the main reason was that Zombie did all these interviews before its release about how all modern horror flicks suck and that this would be a REAL horror movie. But it wasn't.

However, a friend convinced me to give it another try when it came out on DVD and I ended up changing my mind. It helps going into viewing it that you know it's not really a horror movie but some weird, campy, trippy movie instead. With that mindset I had a lot of fun with it.
