Thread: Rob Zombie's Halloween

  1. #21
I'll watch anything Halloween, even part 3. Let's not forget
that the original had little to no gore and that's what
made it so effective. Michael Myers was always a scarier
villan cause he was a real person, that never came back
from the dead, well he did but not like Freddy or Jason.

    I liked part 3.

The fact that it had no gore isn't what made it effective. Gore can be used to enhance a movie, but when it's merely used as a crutch it's lame. The fact that Halloween was a well-crafted movie that actually concentrated on tension and suspense instead of cheap thrills is what made it so effective.

But yeah, I think it was a stronger movie becuase it didn't show much gore at all. Sometimes leaving it all in the viewer's head is more effective. But sometimes letting it all hang out (like Carpenter did in The Thing) works too, in the hands of a talented filmmaker.

He's JUST like Freddy and Jason, only not as cool. Doc Loomis emptied his revolver into Michael at the end of part 1, the guy falls two floors to the ground, gets right up and walks away.

  3. Then gets shot in the head twice, set on fire, blown up, and comes out of it with a little bit of scar tissue on his hands and ends up in a coma.

Come to think of it, Loomis must be like Mike, Jason and Freddy as well. He gets blown up, and comes out of it with a little scar on his cheek and a limp.

Oh wait, that's right... The retconned all of that out with H20 and Resurrection. Although, in Williamson's original H20 script, there was a scene in which a student does a report on what happened to Jamie Lloyd(Laurie Strode's daughter) in parts 4, 5, and 6, and Laurie runs out of the classroom to the bathroom and pukes. Woulda been a nice little touch if left in.

  4. As far as despising the rain of horror remakes falling upon us lately, this has to be the exception. I'd much prefer someone with a great love for horror remake this than some shitty hollywood director whose idea of "re-imagining" a movie is overly reverberated, cliche sound design and MTV style cinematography.

I could never make sense of this when he survived lighting the explosion from a gas-filled room. Logically, he'd be dead and in pieces if there's anything left to clean up after him.

As an omission, I find that deeply appalling. First they kill off Jamie, then everything filmed beyond the first film (dunno about 2) is forgotten. I thought sequels were supposed to build on story, not hack parts out.

    Christ.

btw, I read about Jamie actually surviving instead of being ground up and spending the remaining time in a hospital where she has a flashback of being tied up (by the cult of thorn) and impregnated by Myers himself. When she snaps to, Wynn tells her that her work is done and shoots her.

  6. I don't mind the cinematography of Rob's films. I always found that his movies had a really moody horror quality to them. I don't, however, like his editing and I don't honestly believe he's that strong as a writer.

House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects were more about developing twisted characters through violent action than they were building believable protagonists who were trapped in dire circumstances. I think he might be able to pull it off because this isn't his series and he might not be too willing to just completely hijack it, but his comments about Devil's Rejects not trying to sympathize with his evil characters were 100% bullshit and make me wonder if he actually knows what he's doing. At the end of the movie he makes them ride in to a hail of police officers with Lynyrd blaring. For a bunch of murderers that family moment was a tad sappy.

Although I have to say that the inclusion of Zombie actually makes me want to keep an eye out for some trailers though.

I always wished that there was a serial killer more like the evil guy from the movie Red Eye. He was clearly human, but talented and even more clearly insane. More of that Hollywood.

If I go to a slasher flick I want to see a machete and hockey mask slicing bitches up and that's all.

Yeah, the "alternate" timeline is 1, 2, H20, Resurrection.

That would be from the infamous 'Halloween 6: Producer's Cut, which is only avaliable as a bootleg. Apparently the movie was cut and recut so many times, the film turned out to be a big incoherant mess. Allso, the Producer's Cut is supposed to be REALLY good, from what I've heard. But it's not hard to impove on the original Part 6 mess...

  8. The best part about it happened with Myers having the curse on him canceled out with another mark (the positive one), so when Loomis went back to check on him, he found Wynn under the mask instead and let him know it was his game now (he dies I think). Loomis sees the mark of thorn appear on his hand and lets out this really blood-curling scream as the last shot shows Myers walking off in the outfit of the man in black. Too bad Donald is gone now, I think that's what really screwed up the chance for any future continuity.

Unless 3 has any link to 6, this wasn't meant to be official anyway.

  10. Dammit, I meant 2, not 3.
