You can get them cheaper (after shipping is added in) through Atari Age.
Downside is that you have can only plug in one thing, but the far superior picture makes the hassle of disconnecting/re-connecting cable worth it.

  4. That doesn't even look like the right part.
The one I used to use has a male RCA and a male coax connection, so it can convert any coax cable into an RCA RF cable, and it only cost about $2.50.

BTW, the s-video mod is surprisingly easy, even easier than the composite mod, although the added sharpness makes some games look weird.

  5. yeah, now that i look at it, it is different from the one I'm talking about as well.

Yeah you're right, now that you mention it I think I recieved mine as a free bonus after purchasing something from them. ( I think it was 5200 Beef Drop)

Still it's only a couple buck at RS, not a huge expense.

I'ts hard to tell by that picture, but it will work the same. This one has female on both ends instead(lesbian), you'll get the same result. I've had to suggest that thing in the past and they use to have a better picture, one that actually showed the plugs themselves. For some reason they show that stupid vertical shot now.

IIRC it's not really a lockout, but the 2600 just doesn't send a powerful enough signal to trigger the automatic switch.

I especially like Fall Down and Backfire. Very simple, but highly addictive.

  8. The Atari 2600 was my first system as well and I played it intill the day I got an NES in 1988 or so (I was six when I got my NES). I then played it pretty off and on ever since. Back then I loved Pac-Man (Although I had no idea how bad it was compared to the arcade), Pitfall, Megamania, River Raid... So many damn games.

As of recently I've been playing on Gametap and a couple of us spent an hour or so playing Combat, Astroids and some tank game shooting down UFOs.
Like to see some of this home brewed stuff come to surface.
