I got the DVD for this based on having seen Sunshine. It seemed like he was being obtuse for the hell of it. I can't fucking stand that shit. Terribly pretentious.

Er, that's pretty much pretentious... which, yes, this movie most certainly is (among other things).

I can sit through just about anything, but this piece of crap broke me. If you enjoy watching socially retarded people trying obnoxiously to interact with each other on a third-grade level for two hours, this is your dream movie. When that wasn't happening, you were watching the protagonist act like he forgot to take his Ritalin, Robin Williams-style only not remotely funny or witty. It had tiny moments where supporting actors said hilarious things, but they arent worth suffering through the rest of the film for.

I don't know that the movie was trying to be smart at all. In fact it relished in child-like whimsy, which is what I liked about it.
