My counterpoint to this would be that many people, at the time, viewed LD's with marked skepticism because it offered as many drawbacks as it did features. Remember, when LD was released VHS was its largest competitor and movies were primarily rented and not owned. Typical "new" VHS releases of blockbuster movies were routinely priced from $99-$149 because they were geared towards rental. The thought of owning movies was still novel and unaccustomed to at that point and "regular" people wondered why such an expensive machine couldn't even record. LD's were coming down in price a couple of years before DVD entered the marketplace and were starting to get routinely priced at $39-49 and the DVD's were coming in $5-10 cheaper with more features and less drawbacks. LD was doomed.
For those that are fans of Rescue Me, news is it is coming to BluRay same day as the DVD release on June 5.
Thats a little pricey, but the show is great, and already looks amazing on regular DVD.http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/03/29...-on-bd-50-dis/
Poll any random group of HDTV owners about what non-HD station they wanted in high-def and you'll get two stations more than any other: Sci-Fi and FX. We can't help you with the first one today but Sony is releasing one of FX's amazing original TV series on Blu-ray. Plus it's going to be the first TV show released on the 50 GB disc. Rescue Me: The Complete Third Season will hit selves for $79.99 instead of $49.99 for the standard DVD release come May 3rd. Moreover, according to a conversion with one of their press agents today, Sony is considering season one and two for a Blu-ray release too. In case you're haven't been watching the show just because it wasn't in HD, you've been missing out. (Follows the life of post 9/11 firefighters & stares Denis Leary) Sure, high-def is great but content is important too. Now lets hope we can get some of FX's other original series like The Shield, Nip/Tuck, and their new one this season, The Riches on Blu-ray - or maybe the station in HD; that would do too.
I'll get it for free from the internet. The show isn't worth purchasing.

Interesting numbers, Sony recently released them to show the how much better Blu-ray is now selling over HD-DVD.
What everyone seems to miss, is BOTH formats are selling in pathetic numbers.

I tried doing a Google search for the DVD sales. Nowhere to be found.
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
$30-$40 for a movie or $5-$20 for a movie?...
I'm shocked that the new formats are getting their asses handed to them by regular ol' DVD.![]()
Wait... you mean things cost more when they first come out? FUCK STOP THE PRESSES!
