Thread: Draw Something, Dammit

  1. I am dog-sitting this week. this is an opportunity to draw animals i normally don't draw!
    Donk

  2. I could use some help. I've coloured it but I don't like it as much... I kept the background minimal in colour so the luchadors pop more... I don't know. Any suggestions would be welcome. I can change everything except the colour of the right-most luchadors mask.

  3. p.s. My one idea was to get rid of the subdued BG and do something way more mexican inspired - yellow stucco wall, dirt floor, gaudy decorations, etc.

  4. Most laundromats I've been in have had really harsh overhead lighting, often faulty.

I really like the color of the luchadores. I think the background is kind of weak. The washing machines need to go back farther in space, and they should be bigger. All you have to do to move them back in space would be to raise the ground line up a bit. They'd look better with more variety actually inside the washer machines, like different clothes or patterns at least. I think more empty space between the girl and the luchadores would help separate her from the rest of the picture.
I don't like the chairs at all right now.
I also think you could still go with the yellow stucco wall if you want to, just keep the washers between them and they'll still pop out to the viewer. Still, like yeller said, laundromats have horrible cool-colored fluorescent lighting, and they also have awful white walls.

I love the characters so much, though, i just don't like the background!

  6. I don't mean move them back, i mean give the machines more depth.

  7. Yeah I agree. I'll work on a new BG for the laundromat. Moving the girl over might be harder to do as that's the format I have to work with. Maybe shrinking everything down a bit would work OR making the luchadors bigger entirely so less of the background is viewable and more obscured?

Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely have to rework that bg entirely.

  8. I don't think you have to really move her, just move the washing machines so there's some more emptiness (negative space) between her and everything else.
The luchadores are great at the size they are. The composition is good, it's just the elements that i don't like.

  9. You could even do something crazy like put the bench that they are on up against the front window of the shop. You could have "LAUNDROMAT" spelled backwards and have it be night time so you have big contrast between your figures and the BG. Just do some receding fluorescent light reflections in the window.

I do like the yellow stucco idea. Anything but that white on white.

I dig the characters for sure. Its good to see you making some personal work again man.

    That would be way sweet.
