  2. The first one I thought was pretty average. Like, it wasn't bad, but at the same time I didn't see anything special about it. So, I'm pretty much indifferent towards the sequels. I'm sure I'll see them at some point, but I'm in no hurry to.

  3. As far as pirate movies go the first movie was fucking godfather quality. But compared to any other genre it was just above average. I'll still see this because well I see everything that comes out.

  4. Personally I really liked the first one, I think Depp is an awesome actor and thought he made a great Jack Sparrow. His Jack Sparrow was alot more memorable than most other characters. I'm really looking forward to the second and third ones.

Sparrow is that low down dirty character you don't want to like but the guys got some much charisma you can't help it. I put alot of that on Depp, that's not always an easy feat to accomplish. I think alot of other people could have played that role and maybe been better pirates but wouldn't have gotten the audience to like the character the way Depp did.
    Where I play

    I smell a man-crush.

  6. 2 weeks ago i was walking down the street in LA with my gf. Her dog starts barking and pulling towards a dog behind us, so we're both looking backwards pulling the dog. She walks straight into Jonny Depp who is coming towards us on the sidewalk. Most famous celebrity encounter i've had.

The first Pirates movie is one of my favorite movies. I'd rather they didn't get too supernatural with the series though. The curse was one thing, it didn't get too crazy, and pirates, skeletons, and cursed treasures go together, but I can't say i'm looking forward to them fighting crazy shark pirates now. I trust they'll to do it well, so I won't pass judgement yet, but i think they should play it straight pirate without getting rediculous.

If you didn't enjoy the characters in this movie you wouldn't enjoy it. I personally loved the three leads, and the setting. It was a good movie in that you really kept guessing Sparrow's motives, but you knew in the end he'd turn up in favor of the good guys (even if just to attain his goals). They were very good movies in general, not good "as pirate movies go".

The reason it didn't come off ridiculous is because the movie was focused more on the characters (the pirates themselves, Balbosa, Sparrow, Turner and Elisabeth, etc.) instead of the supernatural events going on around them. If they had focused more on the dead pirate skeletons and not the feud between Sparrow and Balbosa it wouldn't have been so grounded.

Depp was great but the rest of the cast didn't strike me as all that great. I was hopping for an adventures of captain jack angle, sorta like how they do the blackjack movies. He's the central characrter with ones that will never appear again.
